First, taking estrogen alone is actually dangerous. It can lead to male breast cancer and stroke among others because of an increase in estradiol in your body without balancing it.
You need to take estogen compound as well as a testosterone-depressing drug like spirolactone.
Hormone therapy alone will not give you 99 % feminine looks. It will feminize your body though and may give you small breasts depending on your genetic makeup.
And everyone is different as far as how the HRT affects them. That's why the recommended length of treatment before surgery is considered is between one and two years.
Gender reassignment hormone therapy will not change your hairline or grow hair where it has receded. It will also not raise the pitch of your voice.
It will reduce the muscle mass in your body and increase the fat giving you a little more rounded appearance. It will not, however, give you hips or a female buttox.
And you will also still have to have electrolysis to remove the masculine hair on your face, back, chest and stomach.
I hope this helps.

In most countries 18 years of age is one of the magic numbers to get the opperation. Another is 100% in the female gender role before the opperation as well as 2 letters from therapists.

As for hormones, you can start to see results after about 6 months. Noticeable results after about 1 year+. The hormones take at least 3-5 years depending on many factors to take most of their effect. Genetics and family history also play a large part in it. For example, some people have no breast growth after a couple years of hormones while some have reached a C-cup naturally over a couple of years from HRT.

As far as passability, if you're really feminine, you could be able to pass without having started hormones yet. Some people are just lucky like that while others unfortunately have a hard time passing. With the description you gave us, the odds are you'll be one of the lucky ones, if not now eventually down the road.

Make sure you obtain the meds through a doctor though and keep getting your blood work checked. Hormones bought on the street is one of the reasons transpeople are a very high-risk group for HIV. Also, if your blood work is not checked, you could kill yourself from some of the side effects, like DVT.

It depends on the purity and the amount of estrogen being taken daily. It could be a year or two or even ten or more. See, the human male adrenal glands STOP the production of estrogen in the male body and encourage the production of testosterone for the male body. So you need to speak with a certified specialist first before going on estrogen therapy alone.

differences in fat distribution, hair, and skin will be noticable in less than a dozen weeks. breast development varies by person but can continue for up to two years I think. the harry benjamin standards of care require a person to be on HRT for 12 months before a sex change is authorized. While your looks will certainly become more feminine than they were before taking estrogens and/or anti-androgens, we are not talking about magic wonder-pills and overall your mileage will vary....alot.

Do you honestly think it will change your looks ? do you mean body or face ? If you mean face never, if you mean body about 3 years. but apart from breasts it will change nothing at all. I have been taking it for 23 years now and it changed nothing but the breasts, and do you know you will have to take it for the rest of your life if you start it. Also you are more at risk of breast cancer than a genetic woman. I had my surgery a lot of years ago and have to go for regular checkups. nice answer macgor.
