I think maybe. Currently they are 1 game back, 2 games over .500. All this with their ace missing almost 1 month, the worst starting pitcher in baseball getting 6 starts, and no single player having an all-star type of year on the offensive side of the ball.

I've been saying all along that I thought this team would finish 2nd in the West, behind the Halos. The Angels just have too much pitching, and they'll have just enough hitting to make it work. I love the Ms lineup(I cant wait for Sexson to get hot), but the starters arent quite good enough to make them much more than a .500 club. I live in Washington and pull for the team, but they seem to be a little short on the pitching end of things.

The M's are my favorite team. So yes, they will win the AL West.

Let me explain why.

The Mariners actually have OK pitching. I admit, Jeff Weaver has been a dud this year. But now they have Felix back, Jerrod Washburn is starting to heat up like a few years ago, and J.J. Putz, their closer, is rock solid. Maybe replacing Weaver with Cha Seung Baek from Triple-A will do the trick.

Their fielding is superb. Ichiro is enough to make one team's defense good. I've seen Yuniesky Betancourt, their shortstop, make plays that Derek Jeter is well known for. Kenji Johjima is like a brick wall at catcher.

Their batting is good and can only get better. Ichiro, who is basically on a slump, will start to heat up. Johjima is batting in the 300's and Raul is getting a good number of RBI's. Beltre and Sexson, who I admit, have been disappointing, have shown signs of coming back from the dead. Yuniesky Betancourt is having his best year, and could easily get the Most Improved Player award. The two Jose's the Mariners acquired from the Nats (Guillen, Vidro) have shown that if placed on a better team (the M's), they can really turn up their batting prowess.

I think the Mariners will win the AL West. They are better than the Angels, A's, and Rangers!!!

The Mariners are no where near a playoff caliber team or a team that can win the division. The only way is if the injuries keep plaguing Oakland and Las Angeles once the A's and Angels are fully healthy they're not going to be anywhere near the division lead.

If they can find a way to consistently beat the A's and Angels (they put a whoopin on LA last night) I think they have a good chance to win the west. They have to be able to beat their division opponents, though, and they haven't done a very good job of that the last couple years.

anything can happen in the wild west. the compititionthere is weak with the A's, angles and rangers. with a dynimite pitcher like felix hernendaz and a killer starting lineup (Ichiro! (CF) Adrian Beltre (3B) Raul Ibanez (LF) Richie Sexson (1B) Jose Guillen (RF) Jose Vidro (DH) Kenji Johjima (C)Jose Lopez (2B) Yuniesky Betancourt (SS)) anyhing is possible

They couldn't win NCAA baseball right now. They need to overhaul their entire pitching staff, upgrade their corners (Beltre was a horrible aquisition), and next year they have to replace Ichiro. Gonna be awhile before they win anything. Angels are too strong, and A's will finish 2nd.

I don't think so they don't have a consistant offencive player and there pitching is down in the dumps so even if they have good defence in the field dosn't mean they can stop the home runs.
