First I am not a drug addict in anyway and only tried it once when I was young and it made me so paranoid I went nuts , same with my fiancee so we have no interest in using it . However my fiancee thinks the plant would look nice in the garden , it is a unique plant so I really have no qualms about it other then I wonder if I will be arrested .

Question - Is it illegal to grow marijuana or is this possession ? Would I need a lawyer to get clearance to grow it ?

Even "ditchweed" or fiber hemp (same species but without enough THC to get you high) is illegal to grow in the United States.

Some states have laws allowing it to be grown with a permit for medicinal purposes, but it is still illegal in these states under federal law.

It is an attractive plant, though. But as someone pointed out, there are several look-alikes that you might check out this page:

It is illegal in the United States to grow marijuana. You would need a lawyer if you get caught growing it and even that may not keep you from serving time in jail.

Since it is illegal to possess even a seed you would be in big trouble growing it. Also since the whole plant's weight can be used against you in court a single mature marijuana plant can put you in jail for along time. Even if they only count the bud weight against you some strains have been known to yield over a pound (again enought to put you away for along time).

It is very illegal to grow it in the United States of America. I don't think you can get legal clearance to grow it either. It can only be used if you are prescribed it by a doctor for cases that are most likely life threatening (cancer, etc.). Just to let you know, if you smoked it even just once, you have a problem. You might need help.
