You can refuse the vaccine at the hospital at birth as they can just do it at the first appt with the actual pediatrician. You can ask for an altered vaccine schedule too so baby isn't getting a bunch of shots at one visit, just talk it over with the Dr. Babies are more likely to catch viruses which is why vaccines are so important. As they grow and the vaccines work through their bodies their immunities build up but an infant has such a low immune system there is a lot of things they can catch that can seriously cause harm and sometimes permanent damage even death. Hep B is something unfortunately that is going around in day cares, hospitals, nursing homes and many other places so they even recommend adults keep up to date on that shot. You aren't required to do the vaccines but your baby also won't be allowed in a licensed day care or public school if shots are current. My boys have had all their shots and the worst thing was just a fever that lasted a couple of days then they were fine.

it is a lot of appointments
then the ones in between the regular ones because every baby gets colds
you will get to know the doctors well in the first year
trust me

then it goes 15 months
18 months

2 days after getting out of the hospital, at 2 wks old, at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year. so that's 7 visits plus any needed for sick appointments

at 2, 4, 6, & 12 months. thats when they get their shots. unless they need shots they really dont need to see a doc in the first year unless their sick

then once a year
