There are many things you can do. First off, I am not sure if you just want a dog or if you want a yorkie specifically. If you just want a dog, look into different breeds to find one that will be well-suited to your cats. (easy temperment, easy to train, loving, has experience with cats, ect) Either way, introduce the new dog slowly by keeping him/her in one room at first and let the cats get used to his smell. You can also use a pheremone spray to calm your cats down which can be found at a vets office or at a pet store. When this seems to be going well, try slowly introducing them to eachother with the dog on a leash and give the cats treats so they associate the dog with good (or yummy!) things. Continue this process slowly, it could take just a couple of days or it could take three months, it just depends. More importantly, give the cats plenty of love and attention to help this new addition seem like a good one.

I've always found that you just have to let them get used to each other. It may take a couple weeks, but sooner or later they'll all realize that there's no threat. Of course, you don't want to let your new dog continuously bother the cats. It will take time. Put them together for a little bit every day.

PS Are your cats front declawed? Because if not, they could really injure the new dog (eyes, etc.).

let them get used to each other, while holding dog on the leash in the cats in a carrier, if any growls, hissing or anything like that, lock the dog in another room and try again in an hour, after that, try and let the cat out and greet the dog, if the dog lunges, repeat first step.

They are natural enemies. Its up to the actual animals to adapt. Some dogs and some cats have no troubles. perhaps they'll grow to like each other so long as they arent chasing each other around the house breaking things.

No, that's why there is the old expression "fighting like cats and dogs". After a while they will start to get use to each other, but don't expect them to be friends.

All my cats and dogs get together.. maybe even too close.. But we won't get into that. Anyways, it depends on your
cat's personality.

It's always better to get them both when they're young, so they grow up together. Other then that, let them get used to each other. It takes time, but hopefully they will grow some kind of bond.

Can't be bothered
Taxidermy the only solution
the dog will lick you and do anything you want the rest of it's life... But your Yorky Just might lift its leg to demonstrate its respect for your two trophies.

i also have a dog, and one of my cats gets along with the dog. they play alot. but the other cat, my special kitty, he hates the cat and stays away from him at all costs. but i find it helps to hold your cat, scratch his neck and make him comfortable, and then have someone else walk up with the dog, doing the same thing, have them smell each other. do this until they get used to each other, but don't leave them alone togther.
