No, I didn't think so. If I look at a random homepage and it automatically shows details relevant to where I live, what does that mean? Does it mean that some one has entered details from my PC onto thtat site and it has remembered the login/identity?

Every PC connects to the Internet with an IP address.
The IP address can be used to look up your geographical location to know where you are.

Evey computer has a unique IP address. It is like a mailing address for a computer. Whenever you visit a website, the website can record your IP address. However, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) usually assigns you an IP address. As a result, the website gets the IP address of your ISP and its geographical location.

In addition, websites can leave what is commonly called a "cookie" on your computer. A cookie is just a file created by the website and stored on your hard drive. Cookies are not inherently malicious but can be used as such. For example, a legitimate use of a cookie is to store your user id and password to a website. So, you don't always have to enter your information to log on to Yahoo! Mail. Online store use them to record what items you have bought in the past and will create a list of interesting items based on that information. For example, Amazon uses it to generate items you might be interested in buying. However, cookies can also be use to spy on you. For example, they can log all the websites you visited while on the Internet.

There are several ways to remain anonymous on the Internet. If you are interested in finding out how, drop me an e-mail.

Yes, that website could know your location. IP address of a machine is based on your location (country, state ....) and if someone wants to find out, they can do so without huge amount of hassle.
If you logged in to site (meaning you had a login name and a password), then they definitely have your login identity. They might not have your password but they dont need to. They can check your stuff in your in their database or files

If you are talking about your physical home address, not likely. That is information your Internet service provider would have. The will only get a geographical location and maybe a city in most cases.
