It says he should be able to lay on his stomach and lift his upper body with his arms straight under him. He isn't doing this, and I'm not worried, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a baby do this. Did yours?

My daughter does that, it makes her look like a seal. She's 6 months old now and she's been doing it for at least a couple of months.

Girl, those books are based on an average! Not every child hits those milestones when doctors and books say they should. Every child is different and they will do things when they are ready! You can encourage him to do these things by continuously laying him on his stomach to play and maybe lifting his body up and putting his arms under his body, but don't worry about that stuff! He'll do it when he's ready or may even pass it up and move to the next one!

I know exactly what you are talking about!! I studied that freakin book the day that I bought it and each month that my daughter wasn't doing something that the book said she was suppose to was a trip to my doctor. I laugh about it now because it seemed like 2 days after each visit she would start doing it. If I only had the money back that I spent at the dr.'s! LOL Don't worry, your son will do exactly what he is suppose to when he is ready. Good Luck.

all babies grow at their own rate. some hit milestones sooner while others hit them later. does you baby get some tummy time at all? if not try to give him some that might help. but dont' worry he will do it when hes ready. lets see my kids when my daughter was 6 months she was crawling and my son didn't do that until around 9-10 months so they all do things when they are ready. just enjoy your son why he's little.

Be patient. Not all children goes by the book. If you expect your child to do eveything the book says on time, you will drive yourself crazy. I had to learn that lesson the hard way.

Yes, I've seen all three of my children do this.. BUT not ALL babies HAVE to meet every single milestone. Well most do, just because one doesn't or is late meeting it, doesn't mean there's anything wrong. You just have to wait and see...

Some infants do this and they proceed to crawling, but then again, not every baby even crawls...

So watch your baby see what he does, and if you have concerns talk to your pediatrician.

yes, hold a toy over his head and call his name and see if he looks up or attempts to raise his head.

the raise head is what the book means, eventually he will strain and arch his back for a better view

Yes. I would definitely talk to the Dr. on your next visit...wait... how old is he? My son started doing that at 2.5mo. old. Leave the baby on his stomach, he will figure it out... my ped. told me that leaving a baby on the floor on his tummy is wonderful for learning mobility...

How old is he? My son HATED tummy time because he has acid reflux as a newborn so he was very late with this.

Throw that book away. It is dumb. Let your child do things in its own time.
