I saw owlets peeking down at me this morning. The parents didn't approve of this behavior and let me know in no uncertain terms I was unwelcome.
I live in the woods of Vermont and encounter owls regularly. If you know where to look they're not that hard to find.
One thing I look for are owl pellets around the base of a tree. They look a little bit like fuzzy marbles or are more elliptical as they get larger. Depending on the owl they range in size from 1/2" or less for a Sawwhet owl. up to 1 1/2" for a Great Horned owl. They are made of the indigestible parts of their prey (bones and fur mostly) you can pick them apart and find whole skulls in them from mostly mice, voles and shrews. This is not owl poop just the part that was left after they digested the edible part. Owls do poop.
I've seen owls in the middle of the day.
Great Horned owls are the only predator of skunks as the owl has no sense of smell.

Yes, I have, several times actually.
I was working in a prison on night shift. I was patrolling the yard right in the middle of a national forest when I heard something fluttering right behind me. An owl had swooped down and grabbed a rodent for its dinner. Owls fly virtually without making a sound but trying to regain height with the added load of it's prey made it's wing feathers rustle a bit.
I was in awe and stood almost right under the tree the owl settled into to devour its meal. I simply watched.....until bits of rodent guts and fur came flying at me from where the owl was cleaning its meal.
BTW, owls DO poop.(somebody claimed above that they didn't)......but they also "vomit" up what's generally referred to as "owl pellets" who contain undigestible parts of prey animals, like bones.

Yes, I saw one about 4 years ago. The weird thing about it is that someone had to point it out to me as it closely matched the tree that it was in. Once I saw it, I felt special because the Owl is usually nocturnal & not many people get to lay eyes on them.
If you're lucky, maybe the owl is nesting near you. You & your husband can search it out & see if it's staying near you.

Yes, but only in a cage. I can't remember seeing one in the wild, but I heard a rather loud one outside my window last night. I never hear owls around here.

Yes, and I've held one as a baby and had and adult on my arm (trained one) with a leather glove on of course. They are beautiful, but then I think all Birds of Prey are.

yea, we found one (a baby) in our yard and we took care of him for about a week but then we realized some of his behaviors were just outta wack and that he was probably in danger living in the wild so young with obviously no instincts about what to do for food or anything really; so we called these wild bird refuge "Who-Haven" and they took him away...I went to visit him, even spent a day volunteering but really we couldn't have taken care of him on our own...he needed professional help...sad really...
