1. Your doctor may strip your membranes to help you go into labor if your body does not seem to be doing so naturally. You may receive an episiotomy to widen your vaginal opening and reduce or prevent natural tearing during delivery.

2. no

Sometimes when you are delivering the baby the head is a little too big to fit and the skin there can tear. Sometimes in order to prevent a bad tear the doctor will give you an episiotomy, a small cut between to opening of you vagina and your rectum.

I have had two kids and expecting one more in Aug. and I am an or nurse. Most of the time they do not stick their finger there except when you go for your yearly to examine the muscles between the rectum and vagina. They may check if they feel there is a possibility that something may be wrong.

A1) When you go into labor, if you are able to give birth vaginally, they may have to give you an episiotomy meaning they will cut your vagina so that the baby's head can come out easier and not tear you. After the baby is out and the afterbirth is out, they will sew you back up. It is ALOT less painful than it sounds!

A2) I don't recall my doctor ever sticking her finger in my butt hole on any of my check-ups. Any time your doctor has to do something like that they will tell you before and why they need to do it.

Good Luck!

A) It's called stripping the membranes or cervix, it's suppose to help ripen your cervix or help to get things going. it dosen't work in everyone or at all if your body isn't ready for labor. I had it done twice with my second, the next day I had my son but who knows if that really why I went into labor.
B) I have never had my doctor or midwife stick there finger in my *SS, maybe every doctor is different that's definetly a first for me. I did have a GBS test done, but they take a long Q-tip swab and go over your vagina and rectum with it, but they never stuck it or there finger in my *SS. Good Luck!!!!

Cutting is if your skin is getting white (around your Vag.) when you are in labor, It means that you are going to tear and they cut it so that it will heal better than a tear. I never had my doctor stick his fingers up my butt. Thank Heavens
