The combo unit is one unit. If it is a burner unit it would say DVD/CD-RW in your My Computer directory.
If that's what it is, then to copy a CD, you need to copy all the files on the CD over to a folder on your computer first, then put a blank CD in the drive. Then use either Windows or a CD burning program like CD Burner XP Pro to burn those files onto the blank CD.
If you have Windows XP, you should be able to drag and drop those files to the drive and it will know what to do.

If you just want to copy a complete CD, put the CD that you wish to copy in the drive, open your burning program and choose "disk copy". The data on the CD will be copied to a file on your hard drive. Your print will then ask you to put a empty CD in the drive and click go or next or what ever and the drive will then burn cashed data to the new CD.
