IMO you don't know movies until you've seen:
+ The Matrix (the new age of special effects was born)
+ The Lord of the Rings (what more needs to be said)
+ Jaws (THAT is classy direction. And Old-School acting)
+ A Quentin Tarantino movie (recommend Pulp Fiction even tho I hate it, or Kill Bill)
+ Pirates of the Caribbean (because no one doesn't love it and there's a reason or ten for that)
+ The Shawshank Redemption and/or The Godfather (widely classed as the Kings of Film)
+ A movie based on a comic book (especially Spiderman or X-Men)
+ Donnie Darko (if you can extract meaning from this film, you've arrived as a film buff)
+ At least the first Back to the Future movie (you're beyond hope if you don't like this film)
+ Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (because I say so, that's why)
