You might want to start on the internet... various forums are for aspiring poets. I am told that poetry.com is a scam. I do not know anything about this, just passing it along.
If you do use the internet to get a leg into being published, copyright (and register the copyright) your material! Copyright (and register) it anyway regardless of how you try to get into being published. I have heard of so many artists, writers, and poets finding their work tossed about hither and yon under someone else's name. In fact, one of my Ladies had this done to her with two pieces of digital art. She was surfing the net to fine Lo' and Behold... HER work with someone else's name attached. She was not amused.
I was just told by one of my Ladies (who happens to be a poet and is sitting beside me) that what you need to do is register a copyright. She said that, as of '89, anything put down on printable or recordable media is technically copyrighted. However, in order to file any infringment claims you must have your copyright registered. Said Lady found a site about this. I am including it in "sources".
If you are very serious, I would contact a legal advice line.
I have heard of people who got into publishing through the internet. I also know that there are online competitions for poets, writers, artists. I had a friend who entered one. I was told that the publishers tend to watch well-known online venues for amateur poets, etc.

Get a copy of of Poet's Market, published annually. You will find the latest publishers seeking poetry and their submission guidelines. You will also find a list of contests if you want to go that route. It is crucial that you pay attention to what the publisher wants, how they want you to send your work, and respect the guidelines no matter how tedious that may seem. So get a copy of the book and start researching what publishers are seeking because not all magazines that publish poetry necessarily want every kind of poem. Some want only form poetry while others want poems on particular themes.

The best thing to do is get it out to different magazines both on and offline. Buy a copy of Poet's Market at the bookstore and use that as a resource guide for getting published.

You could also try asking at your local Publishing House. We have a few in Nashville. A bookstore like Barnes and Noble or Borders always has a resident 'Brain' that can point you in the right direction!

conceitedness presses using print on call for technologies act as printers besides as sellers of help centers for authors involved in self-publishing. respected companies of this style are many times marked with the aid of clean settlement words, loss of severe expenditures, retail expenditures resembling those from commercial printers, loss of stress to purchase "greater" centers, contracts which do not declare unique rights to the artwork being printed (nevertheless one may be not uncomplicated pressed to discover a valid writer prepared to place out a competing version, making non-exclusivity meaningless) ---- The classic "self-writer" writes, edits, markets and promotes the e book themselves, in line with a printer basically for truthfully printing and binding. greater those days, agencies have offered their centers to act as a form of agent between the author and a small printing operation. --- I say all of this to assert i don't think of that lots of the techniques listed are 'respected' publishing capacity with the aid of classic print publishers and could do little to get you known with the aid of literary brokers or editors. --- the marketplace for poetry is likewise a small one. evaluate how many books of poems you and your friends have offered in the final year written with the aid of unknown authors. i will merely approximately assure between you you have written greater poetry than you have examine. that could be a appropriate loose style of expression. --- i'm not attempting to deter you yet supply you greater guidance on the industry than merely the buzz of 'on the spot yet short lived gratification' merely approximately like a drug. --- that is huge to have your artwork available for others to work out and if incomes earnings isn't your purpose then those are super ideas yet with a view to make this a profession selection you ought to bypass approximately this in a bigger way.
