The melting pot refers to the notion that people from all nations come to live in America and assimilate to become American. As opposed to the cultural mosaic of Canada...that celebrates the cross section of ethnicity.
You're on your own with the railroad...but it may be the Trans Siberian Railroad...running from Vladisvoxov to Moscow...

The U.S. is called the great melting pot because our foundation was built on immigrants from all over the world. We are a country of many different cultures. Over the years, people from different places mixed in with other people that are a different race. We don't really have one type of religion or race. BTW, the longost railroad in the world is the Trans-Siberian Railroad.

The U.S. is sort of a melting pot because of the cultural diversity of the groups here. Because of tons of immigration and fairly open social guidelines (pretty much, you can be you, no matter the culture), there's a lot of culture. Chinatown, cultural centers, and that kind of thing helps show that.
I believe the longest raliroad in the world is the trans-Siberian railroad. Good luck.

The "melting pot" is a metaphor that touts the idea of cultural assimilation into American society. Thus, immigrants give up their own ethnic identities to fit into a larger American society. Admittedly, however, some immigrant groups have had an easily time fitting in than others.
The current trend among social scientists, however, is to talk about cultural pluralism instead of assimilation, meaning that instead of just being Americans, we are all hypenated-Americans.

The longest railway in the world is the one to Hogwarts.
The U.S. is called the melting pot because Arizona is very hot, and the marijuana there cooks on the bush.
What one question has to do with the other?.....I'm still working on it.

It used to be called that because others would come here and try to become "American". Lately, the only thing that's been happening is that everyone that comes here only adds their own heritage to the "American" environment and the "American" is getting more and more fuzzy to define.
