I wouldn't diet; if you mean dieting by going on something like a fast or depriving yourself of meals and/or treats, it will probably lead you to gain weight, from the stress and any moments of rebellious binging.
If you mean fixing your diet to a healthier lifestyle, good for you! A few things that might be holding you back are the ingredients. Look to see what you're eating. Even wheat bread and fruit preserves can contain high fructose corn syrup, which is a pretty dangerous sweetener; I was surprised how much I was eating--not just in soda or ice cream, but virtually everything I ate, even bread crumbs for breading chicken and light salad dressings!
Don't feel like you have to cut out everything fun, though. It's okay to have a treat every once in awhile. Fruit salad or strawberries and whipped cream is probably a healthier dessert than a piece of chocolate cake or a bowl of ice cream, but if you want a piece of cake, HAVE A PIECE OF CAKE. Denying yourself will only make you want it more and when you give in (as you probably will), you'll eat too much because you'll be angry at yourself for giving in. Also, I assume you don't want to look good in a bikini and then balloon another twenty-five pounds in the fall by giving things up and then going back to them later. The key is not to SNACK on these things. Eat apples or carrots for snacks. Also, remember that there is a lot of sugar in fruit already; you won't eat as much dessert if you try to keep in mind that you've had lots of sweet stuff already.
Very Important: Make sure you DO NOT skip meals. My mother used to carry pretzels around with her to make sure that she never went four hours without having some to eat and she lost several pounds. This is because when you're hungry, your body is afraid you're starving and begins storing extra fat from whatever you DO eat. A big breakfast and at least a couple of snacks a day will actually help with this. You'll have more energy and so your muscles will have something to burn.
Which brings me to my next piece of advice; muscles. I used to do wrong here: Certain muscle groups need a day's rest to be properly built. I used to do tons of crunches and my stomach looked great. But push-ups never helped; my arms stayed skinny. Research how to treat the muscle groups you've been concentrating on in your workouts. Building muscles is a GREAT way to lose weight, because as you grow stronger, your muscles NO MATTER WHAT burn more fat, even just walking, and so you can eat more without gaining weight.
If you are being really hardcore, you should see results in about three weeks, and you should definitely look different in a month or two. I fenced for awhile and the workout and drills made me look like a GODDESS. Fullbody workout, twice a week. In three or four months I was a couple of sizes down, with nothing but hard muscle. But think about that. If you want to get fit like that, you'd need to work out at least twice as much as I did; and you're only 14, getting ready for summer. Don't go too crazy or you won't have fun now! :)
As a teenager, your body is probably going to be really hard to predict. Don't stress out too much; try to keep in mind what makes you look good, not what you wish you look good on. As someone said once, Your clothes are supposed to make YOU look good, not the other way around.
(I see nothing wrong with wanting to get fit and eat better, but if you are just unhappy with how you look, read "The Fat Girl's Guide to Life" by Wendy Shanker. Probably the best book I've ever read for someone who is unhappy, not just overweight, but any kind of unhappy with her looks. When you let go of the stress and just work on your health for YOU, you will look your absolute BEST, I promise.)
(PS. I included some links on corn syrup and a fourth one from an article on how skinny people are fat, too! Nutrition and muscle-building are probably the best things you can do to look fit, so good luck.)

Well first off you need to up your activity level. You are probably taking in more calories and not working them off in exercise so the food you eat ends up turning into fat. Walk, or run, or ride your bike or any other activity you find fun. Try to lose no more than 2lbs a week. Buy a weight scale and weigh yourself every morning same time every day. That way you'll know if you are losing or gaining depending on what you ate that day and your activity. Try to drink at least a gallon of water a day. STOP eating fast food, junk foods, sugary foods (such as donuts, ice cream) and soda's. Eat as many fresh vegetables (salad's are good) and fresh fruits, and smoothies you make at home with fresh fruit and non fat yogurt and ice. Learn good eating habits you can have throughout your life. Don't do anything drastic like skip meals. This is so bad for your health, and it does more harm, and no good. You'll end up losing muscle tissue than any fat if you skip meals. Good luck!

Weight management is a gradual and continuous process, my dear, not an instant fix. If you really have been sticking to a reasonable diet and exercise plan, it probably IS working - just not fast enough to suit you.
Have patience, keep at it, and learn to love yourself no matter what your size.

It sounds like you already started working on your weight by working out. FYI: muscle weighs more than fat, so you could be losing weight already but the scale isn't changing.
I would eat healthy nutritious foods (organic when you can), avoid anything white (rice, flour, sugar & fast foods), eat more small meals from all food groups & don't skip meals because your body will think you're starving & will hold on to your fat & stay hydrated (drink lots of water). :)

South Beach Diet. I dropped 8 lb in a week. It was absolutely amazing, and you don't feel like you're going hungry. I pretty much still eat that way, and i've dropped a total of 15 lb in two months and kept it off.
