i ordered a cap and gown for graduation and it says not to wash it, what happens to it when i wash it. should i wash it anyway? it is 100% polyester.

Hi -- Those caps and gowns are often practically disposable. The manufacturer is probably afraid it will fall apart if you wash it, and it might! It would likely shred. If you need to clean it, I'd suggest using a wet washcloth and just spot-clean it. Congratulation on your graduation !
