We just traded in our 2005 chevy silverado 1500 z71 offroad for a 2006 cobalt ss! I miss my truck, but let me tell you what I am loving my cobalt so far. with our truck we would spend at least 500.00 a month in gas. (at lest 100 or more a week) We are getting 34 mpg with our cobalt. I love the xm radio, i love the onstar, love the heated leather seats. Love my rims, love the 10 inch sub-woffer in my trunk. I just love everything about my car, and some time down the reod, maybe in 4 years or so....we will get us another truck!!
As for breakdowns...so far we havent had any problems..and hopefully we will never have any problems.
GOsh i miss my truck!! but boy ohh boy, do i love my new car!
***Also on the chevy website, it states that the Chevy Cobalt, had not been created to REPLACE the cavailer. It has a different chasis than the cavailer, its completely different, so you cannot go and say that it was made to replace or to take the place the cavailer.***

I own a 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS 2.2L 4 cylinder 5 speed. Standard options seem kind of lacking, since you can buy a Honda Accord, or Toyota Corolla with more options. But I haven't had any major problems other than the fuel gauge sometimes will not register for some reason but after turning the car on and off a few times it seems to fix the problem for a while.
I average 37MPG mix of city and highway. Very small trunk opening is my big gripe about the vehicle, also there's not much room in the back seat.

Definitely great on gas mileage, but...
One thing you should take into consideration is that these vehicles are fairly new in production & accurate reliability data/history may not be available. Now, they replaced the Chevy Cavaliers which have ALWAYS been known to be problematic vehicles.
When everything is said & done you would be better off investing in a used (low mileage, well maintained) Honda Civic, than in a new Chevy Cobalt.
Hope this helps & good luck;)

The gas mileage is pretty decent. If you have an LS or LT I know you get about 26 city and 31 highway. As far as breakdowns I haven't heard much. They are pretty dependable cars. I just bought one a few days ago and I really love it.

If a dealership does not know they will nickel and dime you forever. I would change your power steering fluid with new fluid.Be sure to use your owners manuel for proper fluid.Any auto parts store will have everything you need to do this yourself. If that does not work your power steering unit is going out.My best guess would be those two things. As far as what they are telling you about a tune up and tire pressure that`s false. They may have added air but that`s not what is causing your problem. Good luck.
