There are seven things that define as a living organism, several of which the Moped doesn't satisfy. The Moped must be made of cells, which it isn't. It must be able to reproduce, but Mopeds are made in factories by humans or robots. It must obtain and use energy, but Mopeds depend on having someone/thing to add gas/start engine, etc. It must grow, which it doesn't. It must also develop, which it also doesn't do. Therefore, the Moped isn't alive.

The answer depends on what subject is being taught.

You may simply need to research life...signs of life. For one, a moped is 100% man-made. Man cannot 'manufacture' life as yet so the moped cannot be alive.

This question is probably more about HOW you answer the question than about getting the answer right.

I can't come up with any clever, out-of-the box answers for you, so I recommend doing something very simple. Find a dictionary and look at the definition of "alive" and/or "life" or other words representing being alive.

I'm thinking there's one key phrase where you can say "well, a moped isn't ______."

Hmmm...you are in a pickle, aren't you.
This being likely for an 'English' assignment/essay - you need to have a hypothesis:
"Machinery (i.e. a Moped) is not alive"
Then, this being an essay (essay = 'to try') you must try to prove your hypothesis.
I will help you a bit -
You will need to assert that to be alive, you must meet certain tests, such as, perhaps, self-preservation, and reproduction.
Now, you, personally, can meet those tests, a rose can meet those tests, but can a moped?
I would suggest not doing a 'cut and paste' of my answer, as it exists. That's plagiarism, and can result in expulsion.

Sounds like your in a psychology class, so here you go...

You can not prove that a moped is not a living object

A. All living things require nutrition and oxygen
B. A moped requires oxygen (for combustion)
C. A moped requires fuel (nutrition)

If A is true, then B and C are true. Thereofore, a moped is a living thing

For all intents and applications gravity does not exist because of the fact there is no precise description of ways the rigidity grow to be take place a minimum of on the small scale. Even by applying definition in terms of the standard kind gravity does not exist in any actual experience, it fairly is a digital particle and has no textile homes. technology can not justify the life of gravity and in many situations it may not wisely describe its consequences. GR concept sucks because of the fact it style of feels to be very stable at telling us what could take place even though it falls aside the closer we glance. How can we overthrow this tyrant, that's what technology is attempting to do precise now. there could be crimson elephants flying out of your butt in a parallel length yet till you grant empirical info I doubt you will convince a skeptic, its not impossible purely unbelievable.

It cannot reproduce. End of story.

Now ask your teacher to prove that a computer virus isn't alive. It mindlessly infects every computer it comes into contact with for the sole purpose of replicating itself, just like a biological virus. It only lacks the DNA to be organic, but is it alive?

It's really a rhetorical question, but I'd be curious to know your teacher's reaction.

If you mean like a motorbike moped, it doesn't meet the criteria for life.
Life needs to be able to reproduce(either sexually or through pollination) , move independently(walking, swimming, expanding roots), and grow(getting taller, fish getting longer, trees getting taller). Mopeds require outside input to move, don't reproduce, and stay the same size forever.
