It prepares us to become educated adults. When the generation before us get older, who will come in to fill in their position in the employment field. Also, who will be politically educated to run our country and take care of political matters. In addition, school is where we learn how to communicate with others besides our family members. It teaches us to become better people. School can be a hassle but it'll definetly get you farther in life.

The real reason is not completely for us to learn but to also train us how to listen to others and be more efficient when doing work. This helps later on in life when many will choose a job where they are told to do something. Thus, school just foreshadows how life will be for some students in the future.

To educate people so that they can be productive members of society, make an income for themselves, and hopefully pay equal to or more taxes than they cost their respective countries populace. In the USA, public school didn't always exist. In the 1700's and 1800's, only private schools existed for the elite.
One of the Union wins was public education. However, the elite made sure it was a loss too, as they made the curriculum more about brainwashing for patrism (I pledge allegiance...) and conformity; and less about individual creatism.

To teach us not to read and write, but to teach us ot wait in lines, have a mass communal learning center so we can later in life go off and work for other places where you do brain dead work and wait in lines. If school was taught right, it would challenge not only your brain, but in a fun, clever way. But they can't do that. Or else no one would work at factories or McDonalds later in life. School is structured so only a few get a true education, the rest go and join the abundant lower and middle class. Thats the same for collage.

Babysitting, for the most part. That, indoctrination, and keeping a whole lot of otherwise unemployable people out of the private sector.
If school were truly there for educational purposes, homeschoolers wouldn't outperform public-school students so consistently.

It really isn't about learning, it is like a simulation of the real world. You break a rule you get punished, suck up to the authorities (teachers) you get power. You also are shunned. They have you learn on the way however. [sarcasm]Double bonus![/sarcasm] Yep, all they are doing is getting you ready for sociality in the real world.

What do you actually mean to ask???
"what is the really reason for school?" Judging from the unintelligent way that you chose to ask this question, I think that the answer is self-evident.
