Books allow me to experience what I would never experience otherwise.

Books are a source of knowledge and culture, if you are selective in your reading.
But more than that, they are companions. A good book can comfort you when you're under stress, keep you company when you're lonely, take your mind off other things, make you laugh when you need a laugh, or allow you to cry if you need to shed a few tears.
Well-written books create an atmosphere, just like a well-made movie. You can choose your atmosphere by choosing your book.
I choose my books for their "staying power." Best sellers may be entertainment for the time it takes to read them, but not be worth reading again. Second hand bookshops are my favourite places, or libraries. I love the smell of paper and ink and bindings. I learned to read at age 3 and never stopped. My happiest memories have to do with books and libraries and bookshops.
E-books will never replace sitting down in your favourite chair with a cup of something and a good book!

i have been reading for as long as i can remember,as i speak i am reading a book called 'holy fools' by joanne harris.
before that i read a book by an african author.

my passion in life is to read and keep on reading.i would rather read than go out and i hav a bad habit, when i do go out, i go with my book just in case i get a chance to read it!

my mum used to read a lot as well though she dosnt any more so my interest in reading was helped by her.

i can read for a whole day missing meals and all else just to get to the end of the book, i have even read the bible from start to finish more than once and it was a very nteresting read .

for me the value of books is inestimable!i have over 300 books and i have not stopped buying or borrowing though i prefer to buy so i can read it again in peace.

my ideal job would be in a book store or as an editor or proof reader of peoples yet to be published books.
when i read i become a part of the book, one of the characters.

based on my need to know more or seeking of new knowledge i am a lawyer, an arbitrator and soon to be a chartered secretary as i dont belive in reading only for fun but also to gain new insights to other fields of thinking and understanding and try my hands and insight to what i have read.

i know so many things now that people my age dont know becos my reading is so vast, i know lots of new and different words and places and books are just exciting!

without books i do not know exactly whee or what would have moulded my being if i did not have books to read.

the value is inestimable i say!

VALUE OF BOOKS

Hello, Skycat

1. The answer is: almost more than life itself: I have forgotten how many meals I have missed because I have spent my meagre funds on a book.

2. If it helps you to understand: my definition of a good book is that you should be happy both to read it in a single sitting (thereby forgoing a night's sleep) and then happily to go out and about singing its praises.

Stay lucky,

EdHe

I could not live without books. I LOVE books. I work with books. I draw for books. I write for books. I like the smell of books. When I think of my childhood I think of books. If my house burned down and everyone living (and pets were safe) I would be trying to save my books. I think I have a book problem.

They release me from my situation and allow me to be part of the fantasy. They are my other life, my ultimate escapism. As a teenager I burnt all of my books as a protest, saying they were ways of making people belive what they wanted them to believe rather than developing their own. Now I realise that it's newspapers that do that so I stick to books.

Books are doors into different Worlds. You can free your imagination and get out from your own sometimes very predictable life situation

Impossible to value - I couldn't live without books... they make my life richer - I've never bought a new handbag without first checking that it was big enough to fit a paperback book...

Books are priceless. Even if you don't enjoy all of them they are the creative writings of someone who believes they are wonderful....

Books to my are priceless because they give hours of enjoyment and access into another world.
