i have a 1991 honda accord lx, and there is a black wire and a white with green stripe wire. Which wire is the signal wire, and what is the other wire?

i would guess that black was ground and the white with green stripe was signal, but i want to make sure first.

no, it doesn't answer my question, because i don't have a yellow with green stripe wire, and also i need to know which wire is considered 'signal'.

you're right; black is ground, the white one is positive (or 'signal').

the engine coolant temperature sensor should be located in the side of the cylinder head to the front of and below the distributor and it should have a two terminal connector.

There should be a yellow wire with a green stripe that is the positive 5 volt reference to the sensor and the white with green stripe return wire from the sensor to the ECU. The sensor is a negative coefficient thermistor which means that its resistance increases as temperatures decrease so that there is a greater voltage returned to the ECU when it is warmer than there is when it is cold. there is no power and ground in a traditional sense; you have 5 volts going to the sensor then some of the voltage is consumed in overcoming the resistance of the thermistor and a return voltage line to the ECU that is interpreted as the signal value from the sensor

hope that answers your question.

The coolant temperature sender! in case you're having a gauge concern. The coolant temperature sensor is on the different edge of your engine and the european retrieves readings from the coolant temperature sensor for engine administration applications. yet once you're having issues including your gauge then it may be coolant temperature sender proper. On some engines they seem to be a mixed unit and on others they are separate instruments. they are separate instruments on your Altima 2.4L engine. So on the climate save you choose to ask for the coolant temperature sender, which would be rather recognizable by potential of its single spade connector. Edit observe: BTW, your concern could certainly be a defective coolant temperature sender and maximum probable is. yet i does not rule out a connector concern on the gauge cluster, or a foul solder joint on the device cluster circuit board, or possibly a defective temp gauge stepper motor. the indicators you describe are similar to the defective stepper automobiles that wrecked havoc on a large many GM device clusters yet i'm constructive that no such issues are straightforward on the Nissan device clusters.
