It is often said that it is 90 feet from hom plate to First Base.

Are bases inside or outside the 90 feet?

For instance ,if you run from homeplate to First Base and step on the front of the bag -- is the front of the bag less than 90 feet from home plate?

But if the front of the bag is 90 feet from home plate how about the back of the bag?

What about from First to Second Base? From Second Base to Third Base?

In other words, are Bases inside or outside of the Diamond?

"A baseball diamond is actually a 90-foot square. First and third base fit within the square, but second base is measured to the center of the bag. Improperly placed second base is one of the most common mistakes made when setting up a baseball field."

So, 1st and 3rd and Home Plate are inside the 90' diamond while 2nd is inside it from the centerpoint of the bag only.

All bases are not inside the diamond, (at least not totally).

Draw a square on a piece of paper. In one corner, use the point of the two lines for the rear edge of home plate. Place 1B and 3B in their respective corners, inside the lines. That will leave 2B. This one is an oddity. 2B is positioned where it's center point is on top of where the lines meet.

The baselines are 90' apart, the bases are 15' square, so you can do the math and see the distance's vary a bit!

The measurement from the rear point of home plate to the back (outfield side) of third and first bases is 90 feet. The measurement from the back (foul territory side) of third and first bases to the CENTER of second base is 90 feet.

To answer the question, its 90 feet from the farthest tip of the base you run from and the closest tip of the base you are running towards.

To answer ali, the 60-65 feet you are talking about is the pitcher's mound to home plate.

All bases are inside the diamond. Just look at first, second and third base. They are all located in fair territory as is home plate.
