Whereas the Red Sox have really only 2 big name hitters (Ortiz and Man-Ram) and 2 superstar pitchers (Beckett and Schilling)

First of all, they have no team chemistry. None of the players care about eachother. Secondly, their manager is horrible. When A-Rod was being pummelled by the media last year, Torre did not stick up for him at all. Do I even have to say pitching?

They are basically a team full of indivuals, in which none of them really care about whether they win or not because they are getting paid so much money anyway.

As for your comment about the Red Sox, that is completely untrue. If you don't count Dice-K, Papelbon, and Clement as superstar pitchers, than yeah, I feel pretty sorry for them.

Also, J.D. Drew is definetely not a superstar, but he is a "big name hitte." And Manny and Ortiz are better hitters than all of the Yankees batters (discluding A-Rod when he his hot).

If you are a Red Sox fan, than please shut the hell up about the Red Sox and how unfortunate they are for only being the second-best team in the Majors when it comes to players' salary. I am sick and tired of both the Red Sox and the Yankees. The Yankees for being able to buy themselves a WS ring (but the Red Sox sure as hell could also) and the Red Sox for whining about it-and then paying Dice-K's Japanese baseball team what, $50 million just for him to come the MLB.

I hate both of these teams.

Everyone seems to have the Yankees number on this one, pitching and team chemistry. NY has busted out on so many gambles. They went for Pavano after his big year with the Marlins and Wright after his big year with Atlanta. They gambled on these players who hadn't been proven over a several year span to try to rebuild their rotation to the glory of the late 90's, and it bit them in the ***. They also went for the superstar ace Randy Johnson. That backfired. All along they just went bigger and more all-star-esque in their position players to help compensate for the lack of pitching. The result? Still no pitching (although this year has been rough because of injuries) and a bunch of all stars looking aorund at the other all stars wondering when that other person will pull them out of a jam. You also have the team captain's dislike for A-Rod. That type of thing rings through out the entire clubhouse. Let's add on another $20m+ member who doesn't even have to be part of the team all the time and see how the team unity goes.

The Red Sox of '04 had some clash of egos, mostly in the area of Manny acting like he was different than the others. But the clubhouse was so united, so light hearted and fun, that people didn't care. They came together as 1 unit and won. That is the spirit NY is lacking, more than anything else. And you just can't buy that type of chemistry. Not without a ton of scouting on the personality level, and George isn't about to do that. He just wants the best talent, period.

Because great pitching always means more in winning Championships then great bats.Thinks about it,The Yankees once had Clemens,Pettitte,Wells,El Duque when guys like that still had their prime years,They won championships when their biggest names were Jeter,Bernie Williams,Posada.Tell me how many they won when their pitching started getting aged and dismantled and they added guys like Giambi,Sheffield, and A Rod...none.They found out how pitching is most important when they lost to the Diamondbacks who were one of the worse offensive teams in baseball that season.Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling almost single handedly won the championship for that team. Then they went on to lose to the Marlins later when Beckett and Pavano had their breakout years and Mussina and Clemens were showing their age and not able to hit 7 innings much. You need a good rotation that can go seven or 8 quality innings to keep the bullpen rested and fresh. With 6 inning guys you get a tired bullpen that blows alot of games.

Yankees need to stop buying has been middle aged pitchers and start going after the young pitchers of the future to get back what they once had.If they grabbed guys like Matt Cain,James Shields on top of already haivng a Phil Hughes, three seasons from now they could have a rotation of ace pitchers who are all young and have alot of great seasons ahead of them.Plugging up pitching holes with aging vets and expecting your bats to make up the difference is catching up with them.Scoring 7 or 8 runs is great but doesn't help much when the other team puts up 9 or 10.Thats a problem they will have all season if they don't make more pitching moves.Because Clemens is just a 5 or 6 inning guy now hes going to add to the problem not be part of the solution. He'll pitch 5 innings of one run ball then the exhausted bullpen will come in and give up 5 runs killing any of his quality starts.28 million for a little more then half a season for a guy who will play once every five days and only go 5 or 6 innings. That has to be the worst deal i have seen in the history of baseball for less then half that money they could have got two quality innings eaters like James Shields and Shawn Hill who are quality guys but will never be noticed cause of who they play for.If Steinbrennar gave me Cashman's job with half the money i could field a better team then that guy.

First of all, they have had 5 rookies start for them this year. The best of those, Phil Hughes, went to the DL pitching a no-hitter that he took into the 7th inning. Plus, 3 out of 5 of the pitchers on the (beginning of the season) rotation have been on the DL (Mike Mussina, Chien-Ming Wang, and the always injured Carl Pavano). One pitcher who didn't go on the DL, Andy Pettite, had 2 straight wins blown by Mariano Rivera (who has not been himself; just 3 saves, a 1-3 record, and a 7.11 ERA). The other, Kei Igawa, was just sent down to the Yankees single A minor league team to correct his mechanics. The bullpen has also been erratic at times. It doesn't help to have shaky pitching in, arguably, the best offencive division in the MLB.

Players like Bobby Abreu and Robinson Cano have also struggled lately. Hideki Matsui was troubled by his hamstring earlier in the year, and Johnny Damon is constantly fighting off injuries. Giambi has recently been in a slump probably caused by a injury in his foot. In fact, he has seen 2 foot specialists in the last week. Also, Giambi has always batted better when he plays first base. But with addition of Mientkiewicz, Giambi now plays as a DH. And don't forget, Mientkiewicz by himself weakens the Yankee lineup.

Eventually, the injuries will clear up and, with the addition of Roger Clemens, the pitching will stabilize. You can expect the Yankees to be 1st or 2nd by the end of June or beginning of July.

is this even a quetion, its becuz of their pitching stinks!!!!!!!!!!b4 roger clemens decided to sign with the yankees, their pitching was one of the worst in MLB and still is.the only difference now is that roger clemens coming back, just gave the yankees and their fans hope.the first weeks of the season the only recognizable pitcher they had on their rotation was andy pettite.the rest were pitchers who werent ready or just belonged on minor league teams.the yankees might have an all-star line up,and the redsox might have only 4 all-stars on their entire team but, overall the redsox are the better team.the redsox bullpen is more rested and its better too,the starting pitching is better than the yankees too. and the redsox closer(jonathan papelbon has perfomed better than the yankees,s)when roger clemens is ready to pitch hes gonna help the yankees win some games but hes not gonna stop the redsox from winning either.the yankees have the better offense but as we all know."pitching wins championships".

Red Sox are only better cause of their pitching. I'm not saying the Yankees would beat them every time if they had just as good pitching or better, but look at Boston compared to New York

Daisuke Matsuzaka
Curt Schilling
Jon Papelbon
Tim Wakefield

Yankees:
Moose is ok,
DeSalvo
Pettite
Clemens in the starting rotation soon
Brian Bruney

I gather you're not bright enough to figure it out for yourself, or, you're one of those Red Sox fans who feel a need to gloat while you team enjoys it's temporary first place position in the standings.

First of all everyone on the planet, with the possible exception of you, understands that the Yankees need help with their pitching staff. As far as their "all-star lineup" is concerned. I would put them up against any team in baseball. I also hope you realize that once their pitching problem is corrected, they will blow right by your precious Red Sox.

Not to forget that Dice-K and Papelbon are Boston's superstars as well.

I think the main reason is that Yankees' pitching aren't quite evenly match with Boston. Well, you can say Clements might help a bit, but Boston Redsox are still better.

About hitting, there's no excuse for New York. They probably have the best offense in MLB.

So, I would say pitching is hurting the Yankees

Pitching.

The Yankees are tied with the Indians for most runs, scoring 5.56 per contest. However, all the runs in the world aren't going to win the pennant when you're 11th among 14 teams in ERA.

The first answer is ridiculous - chemistry and desire to win? All the chemistry and desire in the world isn't going to change Kei Igawa and and Chase Wright into Beckett and Schilling.
