You will need to separate the female from any other fish if you plan on keeping the fry. Most other fish (as well as the mom) will eat the babies. Place her in a separate tank if possible or if that's not possible use a breeder net from the pet store. Add plenty of fine leafed plants (either plastic or live will do) to provide cover and hiding places for the babies. Then all you can do is wait.

If your female guppy is really big (swollen) in the belly and she is very dark colored in the vent area, she is due to have her young. You can purchase at your local pet store a breeder net that you place your guppy in. This stays in the tank so she still has her own water from the tank. Some of these breeder nets have a "V" shaped insert that lets the newborn fry fall through and the mother guppy can't get at them to eat them. After all the fry are born, remove the mother back to the tank. The new fry will have to be fed a special food for baby fish and this can also be bought at your local pet store. It is great fun to watch the young fish develop and turn into adults.

If she hasnt already had her babies she will very soon. The young fry will be fine left with her unless you have other fish besides guppies in the tank. If you do you could always put the fry in a breeding type mesh box suspended inside the cage so they are still in the tank but protected. By other fish I mean anything that will eat the fry, basically anything that is not a catfish or guppy.
You may also put a sponge around the filter uptake to elimate any fry being sucked up.!

I've got guppies too. I just let nature take it's course. They're supposed to give birth every month or so provided you have good conditions. They make these little nets you can put the mother in so that the dad or other guppies don't eat the fry.
Me, I just let the population control itself naturally, but if you want to keep the fry, make sure you turn off your filter so the wee ones don't get sucked in.

The fry will be born free swimming and they will appear at the month after the female was ferilized. I hope you can save your fry.
