My mother was a real prude and when I was 9 she found out I had started my monthlys. Instead of sitting me down and talking to me about the cycle of life and sex and why my body was changing, she handed me a book called Mother's and Daughter's. I had to read it by myself and she never asked if I understood it all. Good thing I was a good reader and I did understand but it would have been nice to go over the book with her help. The thing was, my Grandmother had given my Mom the book and then she had passed it to me. It was 2 generations behind the times so I missed alot of pertinent info.

I was 8. I already had learned it from the 5th grade buds though. And the TV. And the Internet. And pretty much everyone else. It was (shudders) a little weird.

Yeah, ummm...I never got "the talk".

I just kind of figured it out for myself when I got a little older. My mom I guess is really shy about that stuff and just never talked about it -- even when I got my period.

The only thing was that she tried to talk to me about it right before I got married and I was like "ummm...it is a little to late for that now, mom..."

My mom and I never did have 'the talk'....that would explain me ending up single, 40 and preggers a couple of years back.

I had to get the real "talk" at school around 12, but my dad constantly gave me the "boys have only one thing in mind" speech since forever. I think *he* certainly had only one thing in mind....

I'm 44 and I'm still waiting for the talk! I think my parents thought I'd absorb it by osmosis...
