Recheck the date, the Indianhead nickel with buffalo on reverse's last year was 1939.

But if you are after value all coins are condition grade followed by rarity 2nd.

A profile of a Native American is on the obverse of the coin, which was a composite portrait of three Native American chiefs: Iron Tail, Big Tree, and Two Moons. The "buffalo" portrayed on the reverse was an American Bison, Black Diamond, from the Bronx Zoo.

~The mint and condition might possibly impact on value (it generally does, after all), but secret is absolutely correct. It is worth at least five cents. Unfortunately for you and your grandson, that would be $.05 in today's dollars, and not in 1939 dollars.

Hey, have you considered taking it to a coin dealer or looking in a coin magazine or guide? (Oops, mea culpa: if you had, you wouldn't be asking on this site which will clearly give you a much more accurate valuation.)
