Because if you really feel that badly about yourself and you aren't looking for compliments then you usually wouldn't mention anything about your insecurities. If you do tell people about your insecurities what else are they going to say? Of course they will tell you positive things about yourself, they aren't going to agree with you that you are ugly or whatever (unless they are very cruel people).

The easiest way to deal with a compliment is simply say thank you. Plain and simple...and you won't have to deal with the rest of it all.

If you are feeling badly about yourself...it really isn't something that you need to or should discuss with others...outside of the small group of trusted friends or family members. And if they truly believe that you are fishing for compliments, you might want to think it over honestly. They would know you well...and it may be a character trait that you simply don't want to admit to or about yourself...

How often do you feel like crap? Do you over do it to the point that people feel that you are just desperate for attention? Who are you asking? Your parents? your boyfriend? your brother/sister?

All are key questions to ask yourself.

Maybe you are looking for compliments or pity and you just don't want to admit it. Think about it.
