Okay this baby shower I had for my cousin was a little "out there"! But here are some games we made up..................
the toilet paper game- the game started out as everyone pass the toilet paper around and take some off.(people thought "ok? why am i doing this?") then they would wrap each one around the pregnant girl's belly and see who's fit the best. Once people played it so many times at different baby showers, they caught on to it and then people just started to try to get just enough to fit around her belly. Well, WE played it and people were thinking they were trying to see how much toilet paper would go around the pregnant girl. Well, did we FOOL them! After everyone tore their t.p. off the roll, we said" ok, you guys think you know how to play this game? Well, this time we are doing it a little different! For each peice of toilet paper you tore off, you must say something nice about the pregnant girl or a special memory you have of her. It went pretty good, it was even kinda funny cause some people didnt know her very well so they were just saying your hair's cute....ect.
another game was the bottle game- everyone got a baby bottleof juice (we poked bigger holes in the nipples, but they still had to suck it out) and we had a race to see who could drink the fastest. then the nipples got thrown away and the bottles got sanitized and gave to the new baby.
another was the baby food eating contest- we paired the ladies up and one had to feed the other a jar of baby food fruit with a baby spoon, then they had to switch with a new jar. They also had to wear bibs! LOL LOL LOL
Then there is the traditional "write the baby's name on a peice of paper and see how many words you can come up with using only the letters in the baby's name.
Be creative!!
And Have Fun!!

For 40 people you're going to have to pick some of the quicker games. It would take FOREVER for each person to measure a string around the mom's belly. It would also take a really long time for each person to look at separate baby food jars guessing what they are.

A great game I played at a larger baby shower was... take the name(s) they have picked out for the baby... each person would write it out on the top of their paper and when you say, "go", they'd try to come up with as many words as they could using the letters from the baby's name, (you may want to include the last name depending on how many letters is in the first name). Give them a few minutes to come up with their words and say, "STOP"... whoever has the most real words that don't have to be capitalized wins!

Another thing you can do is create a quiz ahead of time that people have to answer questions about the pregnancy and such... whoever has the most correct wins!

Something fun for the mom to keep forever is have everyone start drawing what they think the baby will look like in 5 years... after a short time you have them pass their drawing to the next person and start drawing on the next page... they all come out really unique and it's sort of an art project the mom can put into a scrapbook... you could also have them sign the page every time they pass it on so you can see who partook in the big celebration!

This is fun... I probably have more ideas but you've got a lot here! Have fun with it!

Get 10 different types of chocolate..Snickers, Peppermint Patties, Reese Cups, etc. Melt them in diapers and let everyone guess "What's that smell"

If you have your baby name picked out, write it on a paper and see who can come up with the most words out of your childs name.

Get 10 quarters and a little cup. Stack the quarters and hold them together between your legs, using only your knees..no hands! You have to walk 10-15 steps and drop them in the cup. Whoever gets the most in the cup wins!

I like the guess what the baby food is. But 2 things, make sure you write a list of the foods you have and number the jars so you remember what is what! Throw a curve ball in there with a wild mixed fruit or something!

Hope you have fun at your shower! CONGRATS!

Hope it helps!

get 20 different types of baby food. Take out the paper around them. Have them guess what the foods are. The winner with the most right should get a prize. Or you can get little pacifiers and put them on strings for each person that saids" baby" The person who hears it gets the pacifier. The person with the most pacifiers at the end of the shower gets a prize. Just some things I did. Congrats and Good Luck

There is a game that you set different baby items such as pacifier, bottle, baby comb, fingernail clippers, anything for a baby on a tray and give everyone a little time to look at it. Then take the tray away and everyone writes as many of the items as they can recall on a piece of paper. The person that remembers the most wins a prize. Then at the end of the game the mom to be gets to keep the things.

I was at this friends house and they had the funniest idea.

Everyone who arrived got a little diaper. They were little diapers someone had made out of fabric (like felt - I know I'm not saying it right though). Whoever had the one with the fabric poo in it won a prize!

Also, there's one for saying baby. As guests arrive, they get a diaper pin and must refrain from saying "baby". If someone hears you say it, that person takes away your pin. The person with the most pins at the end of the shower (or towards the end) gets a prize.

games i did at my baby shower:

* everybody got a necklace with a pacafier on it.. who every said "baby" or asked any question or sentence with the word "baby" in it got there necklace taken away, by the person who noticed them say it.. who ever had the most necklaces at the end.. won!

*on the back of my "thank you card envolopes" i had everybody write there address (made it easy to send them out) and they had to drawl a baby with there eyes closed on the envolope.. and whoever i thought had the best baby.. won!!(then when i sent my cards out they were already addressed)

*also listed above i did the string around the belly.. whoever guessed how big the belly was.. won!!

*also the tray idea.. put a bunch of baby stuff on a tray and whoever remembers the most wins!!!
I cant think of the other ones but i hope those few helped!!

Have everyone cut a length of string that they think will fit just right around your belly. The closest one wins. That is cheap and easy for lots to do.

Have a basket or plate or something with a lot of baby stuff on it (eg rattle, burprag, bottle, etc) and let them look at it for like 30secs or 1 min. Then they have to write down everything that they remember and the one who remembered the most wins.

Hand out Clothes PIns to your guest.
Game: The guest pin the clothes pin to their clothes and no one is allowed to say the word "BABY" if one person say the word BABY and another guest hears her then she takes the clothes pin away the person with most Clothes pins wins.

Put different baby items in a dark colored pillow case and have the guest on at a time feel the closed bag and write down what they think is in the bag.

good luck....

at my joint baby shower w/ my sister, we did the strings around the belly guessing game & then gave everyone a piece of paper, listed with the letters a to z and got everyone to try to write something related to babies for each letter and the person w/ the most letters filled out wins a prize.
