First off, they're not going to throw you in jail. You'll probably, at worst, have to repay any monetary values and do community service.
Having said that, however...you know what bothers me the most? Your statement that you "shoplifted for the first time". You planning on making a habit of this?

Calm down, everything will be fine! However, you should be thankful you got caught the first time! Maybe you learned your lesson!!!! Next time, you very well may go to jail!!
You will go into court, the judge will probably give you some community service and lecture you, but then you will go home. IF it happens again, you will be seen as a repeat offender, and you will do time in a juvenile detention center!
If you don't have money to buy it, you don't need it!!!! Going to jail for a $24 pair of sunglasses hardly seems worth it!!! Straighten your azz up!!!!

It is foolish for you to say you are not the kind of girl who does that stuff, since you did in fact do that stuff. If you "weren't thinking" once, you probably "won't think" again. You also seem to be blaming it on your friend instead of taking responsibility. I certainly hope you will have to go to jail for your theft, but if the store decides not to press charges, you will probably assume you got away with it and do it again ...until you get caught again and eventually have to do some serious time. Some people can only learn the hard way, and a little scare is not the hard way. Stealing is stealing, and it's a crime.

Live the rest of your life acting as if someone, like your mom or dad, were watching your EVERY move. Then you'll never get caught with your proverbial pants down again!!
In the meantime, don't worry about it by fabricating all these scenarios of jail and persecution. Just remember how awful this lesson feels and practice the first part of this answer from now on.

You're going to jail for a long, long , long time. Buahhahah !
No, just kidding you'll pay a fine, (not cheap by the way) since this is your first time, but take it for what it is; a lesson not to do the wrong thing, and ask yourself: was it worth it,is not so much the money you are going to pay, but the situation you put yourself into. I don't think you'll be going to jail. Hope you learned your lesson.

It sounds like you're either a young adult or a juvenile. Either way if you're a first time offender most likely you will be found guilty of theft and be required to pay court costs, fines, resitution, and be placed on probation.
I will only say this....when you steal from a store...you cost the rest of the customers money when the owners jack the prices up to compensate for you stealing their merchandise.
Best wishes.

you deserve to be scared and how old are you? teenagers do stupid stuff like that not a responsible young person. and your record won't be so clean now. you should have gone to jail but you will probably get a slap on the hand and a hefty fine because the jails are overcrowded for petty thief.

You probably wont go to jail but you will get a fine and it will be on your record. It will probably also be put in the paper so everyone will know that you did it.

if you are a minor, you do not need a lawyer. The letter will indicate that not charges will be filed. However, if you are caught again committing a petty theft, charges will be filed, you will be fined, and be placed on probation.
If you are an adult, you will be placed on probation.
