i just need a few major differences...other than GC does not require the substance to react to UV light.

Speed. GC: Inject a volatile sample and your answer appears "at once." TLC:"I'll get back to you later." Speed again: Try, try, and try again. Why not? Change columns again and again and it costs you nothing (in time). Multiple detectors in the machine. ("How 'Bout Electron Capture?")

GC can be faster and give better separation. You can normally use a much smaller sample. There are disadvantages, such as the sample has to be volatile, it has to be detectable by the method used, and you can't recover the sample. One correction, some TLC can be done with nonUV samples, especially if they are colored to begin with.
