What are some good vampire books BESIDES the Anne Rice novels? I especially like the horror/romance/fantasy type, yet I like them somewhat realistic. But any would do.

Here are some of the best vampire works I have read:
Dracula by Bram Stoker
Mina by Marie Kiraly
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles
Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series about a witch who is a bounty hunter and works with a vampire and a pixie
Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty Norville series about a werewolf radio talk show host
Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden series about a wizard private investigator in Chicago
Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series

For Young Adults:
Sweetblood by Pete Hautman
Midnight's Choice by Kate Thompson, part of a trilogy that begins with “Switchers” and ends with “Wild Blood”
Companions of the night by Vivian Vande Velde

If you just want to kill some time and have some fun reverting back to childhood, check out The Bailey School Kids series by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thornton Jones. They have some humorous titles like "Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots" and "Dracula Doesn't Rock and Roll".

Tom Holland's "The Vampyre" is a good book! And here are others:

Darren Shan's The Vampire War Trilogy

Chris Marie Green's Night Rising: Vampire Babylon series

E.E. Knight's Valentine's Resolve: A Novel of the Vampire Earth.

And while not a vampire book, I recommend Lilith Saintcrow's series about Dante Valentine :)

Hope this helps!

There is a series of Vampire books written by Fred Saberhagen. It starts with "The Dracula Tape" which is essentially Bram Stokers story told from Dracula's perspective. This is followed by "The Holmes-Dracula File" in which (obviously enough) Dracula and Sherlock Holmes meet and "An Old Friend of the Family". There are about half a dozen or so more after that but these three are the only ones I have read. Overall his take is that vampires are kind of the moral equal of humans rather than automatically blood thirsty monsters. They can (and do) choose their actions based on their beliefs and desires. Dracula for example drinks blood (as they all must) but at the same time he is intensly honorable. He does what he must to survive and manages to do it without the interminable angsting that Anne Rice's vampires seem to be tortured with.

Vampires:
The Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris. Her latest "Grave" book was actually pretty good too. I didn't care for the first one, but this one introduced a hint of romance (slightly incestuous, but so what) that I liked.

Sunshine by Robin McKinley. I will be among those mobbing her if she doesn't write a sequel. Not enough sex or romance, but the hint was pretty tantalizing. And that aside it was just quite a jolly good book.

The series by Stephen Spruill. Lords of Light, Daughter of Darkness, Rulers of Darkness (in reverse order). LOL can be hard to come by - I had to order from UK Amazon.

Savannah Russe is ok.

Laurell K. Hamilton is a duh, although her plots have been thrown to the wayside in favor of sex. Which is good, but .....

Shannon Drake: All her books are good but after you've read a few you realize it's the same book over and over, only the characters change. Which is GREAT if you really like her, but I've had enough for now.

Witches: Kim Harrison is ok

Werewolves: Lori Handeland. The first one kicked Major ***.

Kelley Armstrong.

Patricia Briggs is worth watching.

Psychics: Kay Hooper.

I just published a new vampire book (book 2 & 3 coming soon). It's called "The Rise of the Relique."
Karyna and Dreyton are siblings on a quest to find their parents who went missing when they were children. Dreyton gets bit by a vampire, Malikae, who joins them on their journey. The adventure is dangerous and filled with tribulations at every turn. Malikae is hiding something but so are the siblings. Book one of three opens the door to a dark and mysterious expedition. Will they find their parents? Will they learn who they are or will they get lost in who they ultimately will become? Do you enjoy The Lord of the Rings? How about The Pirates of the Caribbean? Lastly, what about Underworld? The Rise of the Relique combines many aspects of all three genres perfectly by exploring a world with Greek mythology, mermaids, Lords, angels, vampires, pirates, and many more!!!! https://m.facebook.com/RiseoftheRelique/?ref=bookmarks

Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake Vampire Hunter" series is okay if you like a bit of romance. I hear that Octavia Butler's "Fledgling" is really good. My favorite vampire series of all time however, is the Vampire Hunter D series by Hideyuki Kikuchi. So far there are about 8 of them out and they are very good, although maybe too sci-fi for you, considering how you said you want them somewhat realistic.

My favorite vampire novels are: Sherrilyn Kenyon' s Dark Hunter Series, Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Series,.
I just finished Twilight by Stephanie Meyer and it was very good. Christine Feehan's Dark Series is good but the story themes repeat after the 5th book.
