Art Monk, should start end and be this list.

Art retired with more catches than any other recieved in NFL history. He won 3 superbowls. He had the longest consectutive games with a catch record. If you compare him to Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Steve Largent, and anyone in the hall he clearly deserves to be there.

Well there are many great players but I think you would have to start with the obvious and say Emmitt Smith. due to the records that he set. There have been a few 2000 yarders to come along since but with the teams seemingly going to 'running back by committee' Emmitt's records should have a great chance of lasting the test of time.
I suppose then you might want to mention Bettis. His stats are most certainly nothing to sneeze at.
Now lets not forget that there are other positions on the field.
Jerry Rice should certainly be mentioned at this point. These may be the certain ones.
What about guys like John Randle, Alex Karas, Christian Okoye ??
Terrell Davis, Billy Sims and Bo Jackson come to mind as some great players. Who may never get into the HOF.
Just some of my thoughts there are many more players who may be worthy too.

Of those retired players not destined to get in (E.Smith, J.Rice, ect.) I'd say Art Monk, Roger Craig, Phil Simms, Andre Reed, Ken Stabler, Brent Jones, Bernie Kosar, Mark Clayton, Richard Dent, Charles Haley, Steve Atwater, & Reggie Roby. Also, coaches Dan Reeves, Jimmy Johnson, & Dick Vermeil. Last, Owners Ed DeBartolo Jr. and Jerry Jones. But you asked who is the best. I'd go with Jim Plunkett.

It's ironic that so many people mentioned Art Monk. Last week with my co-worker, I was just discussing Art not being in the hall of fame as of yet. So, to me, Art Monk is the best NFL player is not in the Hall of Fame.

looking at only those players that have passed eligibility, I'd agree with those saying Art Monk. Probably the third greatest receiver of all time (behind Jerry Rice and Steve Largent)

I wouldn't count players such as Rice, Emmit, Deion Sanders or Darrell Green because they are not eligible yet and we know they will be there on their first ballot.

Mi picks are Brian Mitchell, Andre Reed and Art Monk
