Do you have any solutions to the current gasoline price. Id have to say this next quarter whoever is leading in profits is the oil company I will boycott until some other company leads. Maybe they might compete to not be the very top. ( they profit billions)

Boycotts on the oil companies never work. The general public is too apathetic to act. It's more convenient to drive your SUV than to ride-share or use public transportation. Besides most people don't give a rats butt about what impact they have on future generations.

Oil companies sell refined gas to one another all the time.

Here's an idea.... thinking out loud.... blast holes at will....

Allow states (or local governments) to build and run their own refineries. The refineries would not be profit machines, they would be independent and not-for-profit. After X years running they could be sold to the highest bidders. I think gas prices would plummet immediately. Seems like a regular excuse that the big oil companies use for high gas prices is the cost to run/build their refineries.

IMHO it's better than government subsidized gas.

I guess drilling more domestically, building more refineries, reducing the number of seasonal blends and reducing the fuel taxes are all out of the question.

These days the federal government has nearly as much to do with the price of fuel as the big, rich, mean oil companies.

I don't know the pricing formula of the oil companies, but in most businesses, when the price of commodities go up, you raise your price too. Even if your margin/markup remains the same, your profit increases. 10% of $100 is $10. 10% of $1000 is $100. Is the insinuation that a severely regulated and demonized industry is insistent in raising its margins? If so, good for them. Nothing like thumbing your nose at the Neosocs and the Neocoms.

The market will determine the correct price.

***Did anybody read BB's post? hahahaha Sell it later to the highest bidder he says! hahahaha That's a good one! Thank you Hugo! hahahaha!

On the personal level, don't drive so much. Drive a smaller car. Walk or ride a bike or take public transit (even if it takes you 3 times as long to get there and you're rubbing shoulders with homeless people).

On the macro level, let someone build a freak'n refinery near where you live. Seriously, your local gas prices will go down - transport from refinery to station adds significant cost - and the national price will drop from the increased suply, as well. Of course, it takes a /long/ time to get a refinery built.

Stop drinking coffee...seriously. If we filled up our gas tanks with the coffee concoctions we purchase every day, gas would be around $32 a gallon. If you're so concerned about gas prices, which are not all that high in comparison to much of the world, cut back in truly excessive spending, such as your caramel frappuccinos.

Gasoline in the United States is nearly half the price of gasoline in Europe. I think, as a nation, we should stop whining about a couple of extra dollars a fill up and instead concentrate on REAL issues. The market seems to take care of itself. More expensive gas results in less pleasure and discretionary driving which will result in less pollution. Yay! Here just outside the Nation's Capital---gas is $2.99/gallon at the 7-11. I just filled up my tank. It's cheaper at the discount gas stations.

Saying you will 'boycott' a particular oil company shows you have no idea which refineries supply your gasoline.

the government needs to ration it because if the united states resricted gas use meant it would stop people guzzling gas like they do and have oil companies not losing money but cutting a ton out of their profits...

so ride a bike!

conserving as much fuel as possible, avoid unnecessary trips. using less gasoline is the only way to make the oil companies lower the prices.

Solutions to the gasoline price? I don't see a problem with it. You pay less for gas than most of the rest of the planet. Why cry about it?

Regardless of the situation or problem. The first thing we should do as a nation is get along with eachother. That would be a good start.
