GALVESTON, Texas -- A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged after police said his 2-month-old daughter was burned when he placed her in a microwave, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Joshua Mauldin of Arkansas has been charged with injury to a child causing serious harm. He is in the Galveston County jail with bond set at $250,000.
At Shriners Burns Hospital on Tuesday, doctors treated internal injuries and third-degree burns the infant suffered to the left side of her face and left hand. She is listed in critical condition. Maudlin arrived at a Galveston hotel last week along with the baby, his wife and mother. He called 911 on Thursday, saying that his baby had been burned in the hotel room when he tripped while carrying a pot of hot water to make coffee.
But police Sgt. Annie Almendarez said investigators later decided the child's injuries were not consistent with that story. She said investigators believe the child was in the microwave for 10 to 20 seconds.
"I've been doing this for a lot of years and it actually brought tears to my eyes," Almendarez said. "I'm sitting there looking at the pictures and I'm sitting there looking at him and there's nothing I could really do about it but just keep my composure and go on."
Detectives said Mauldin later confessed to putting his daughter in the microwave and said he was frustrated by the demands of caring for her.
At the time the child was injured, her mother and Mauldin's mother were picking up dinner at a nearby restaurant.
According to police reports, Mauldin told investigators God ordered him to go to Galveston to look for work as a minister.
If convicted, Mauldin could receive a prison term of five to 99 years, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.

I have a 4-month-old daughter, and when she is crying and fussy it can be frustrating...but I love that kid soooo much, I cannot understand how parents can do things like this to their kids.

Something similar happened a few months back in Florida. There was this couple from India who were getting a divorce and they have a two month old baby, the Husband packed all of his things and left the house, but remembered that he had forgotten a few other sentimental items so he went back to the house for them, then he heard the most piercing scream, and knew right away that it was the baby, the Wife would not tell him where she put the baby so he traced the noise from the oven! She placed that innocent baby in the damn oven! The baby's arms and legs were badly burned, the Husband got there just in time. God saved the baby that day, by making the Husband go back to the house for something he had forgotten. He now has full custody and the Wife is in Jail.

I say put her to death as a adoptive mother It makes me SICK to see these ladies mistreat their children, there are homes all over america that would take and love these kids. I adopted a baby at birth and he has 3 siblings all given away by the Birth mother, those who can have then do not truely understand how that baby is such a gift,Us that cant have our own do know. SO I SAY KILL THE MOM WHO DID THIS OR ANY ABUSE TO HER CHILD

That is horrible......what sort of sick mind would think up a thing like that....? Wouldn`t surprise me if it`s not first time he`s done it - what do you think .....?
The punishments are a joke though. 99 years in jail - yes that ensures he never gets out. But a 10,000 fine....? Who is gonna pay that while he`s rotting in jail....? How do they come up with this stuff.....?

The craziest part: this is not the first incident of a parent putting their child in a microwave (or doing other equally horrifying things). Years and years ago I worked with a child who had burn scars covering most of her body. She got them when one of her parents put her in an oven.

It truly...boggles my mind.

That is crazy!!! How do babies even fit in the microwave and what would prompt anyone to put a living thing in there?

That makes me sick too. Some people are seriously demented. I hope his wife divorces him and he loses all custody with a restraining order!
