How come only CERTAIN sports players are considered famous celebrities but not all?

Like for example, Shaq is a celebrity, but Aaron Brooks from the NFL Saints team isn't. Why is that?

Guess it depends on the originating city of the team, and the demographics of that city........ it's size, etc..... More exposure to the people in any given market, and it explodes from their, once endorsement deals come thru.
