On TV you only get the visual aspect of the game. Baseball's also about the smell of peanuts and the taste of hot dogs with mustard and the sound of the bat cracking and the roaring of a crowd after a home-run. You just don't get that on TV.

I'll watch baseball anytime! TV, Live, even Radio.
But there's something about being at a Live game.
The smell of the freshly mowed grass. The crackling of the bats in the dugout. It's all real.
When you shout, "OH COME ON! THAT WAS A PERFECT STRIKE!" at the TV, they don't respond as well.
At least when your at a game for real they can hear you.
Being at a game, any game, (even Little League) is always going to be an experience to remember. The atmosphere is a lot more different than when your sitting on the sofa cursing and throwing popcorn at the screen.
Just the whole feeling of being at a game is amazing.
Like when your favorite player is at bat, 3 balls, 2 strikes, 2 outs, and when the pitcher throws a perfect fastball, the whole world is quiet for a second, before you hear the loud CLACK of the bat as the ball is hit outta the park.
It's such an amazing feeling. Cause you know it's real. And that's is truly happening.

I don't think it's boring. I do think it could stand some significant improvements.

Damn commercial breaks are far too long. Show the beer ad, the tire ad, and get back to the game already. (And the breaks are longer in the postseason, but this never gets criticized because that's where the munny is.)

Any announcer not named Vin Scully is an idiot. The younger they are, the dumber and less classy they are, with the exception of Tim McCarver, who is on his own planet when it comes to idiocy. And none of them (again excepting Scully) knows when to SHUT UP and let the game tell its own story.

Shot selections by the producers, especially on Fox, are dreary, repetitive, and awful. Worst of all are the EXTREME CLOSEUPS of the batter's eyes or the pitcher's left nostril. Honestly, I do not want to count these men's pores. When viewing the batter, I wanna see the catcher and the umpire too. I want to see the pitcher's motion, not his whiskers. I understand why Fox does this -- they think it's dramatic and emotional, which is how Fox approaches everything, but (a) they're wrong and (b) it's stupid and annoying; but, sigh, that's Fox. ESPN is somewhat better, but it'd be amazingly hard not to be.

Boring? No. Disappointing, yes.

I'd have to agree with you and the other folks about everything that's great about being there, but for me the game has become almost unwatchable on TV, even when it's one of my favorite teams from each league.

I blame Joe Torre because he's with the Yankees but I should probably blame Tony LaRussa for starting the whole "use as many relievers in a game as possible" thing.

I'm subject to watching Yankees games because my wife's a big fan, and their games are horrible to watch because of all the pitching changes they'll make. It's worst in the playoffs. Unfortunately all teams do this now.

(The Yankees also make games so much slower because several of their hitters are so patient at the plate and take a lot of pitches. I know that's a good thing but it drives me nuts.)

Back in the mid-late '90's when Greg Maddux was throwing sub-2 hour complete games I could get through a game on TV easily. Nowadays, no way, thank goodness for the remote!

The atmosphere of a park is a huge contributor to the overall experience of baseball. But, the right announcers can make a game fun to watch. I love Vin Scully, the voice of the Dodgers (I think he only does home games now). I could listen to him for days and never get tired of his voice or his stories. The first time you listen to him you'll swear there are two guys with similar voices in the booth -- but there is only one man. He paints a picture with his words.

I also thankfully enjoy the guys who do games for my two favorite teams, the Cubs and Red Sox. In fact, if it wasn't for Harry Caray and day baseball, I may not have turned into the fan of the game that I am today.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's when the Blue Jays seemed to be in the running every year, I LOVED to watch their games on TV. For some reason, after their back-to-back World Series wins in '92-'93, I stopped watching baseball period. Probably because that's when I started by career and had less spare time.
