Generally I like some cars from each manufacturer and country. In the end it just is simple addition to show from which country do I like the most cars from. This comes out to be something like this:
1. Japan - Quality and Technology
1. United States - Power and Muscle
1. Italy - Design (Most beautiful cars)
4. Germany - Technology and Handling
5. Australia - Powerful RWD cars
6. France - Weird Looking, yet nice designs
7. United Kingdom - Classy Designs

I own both... I didn't insist on buying a foreign car (infact I didn't want a foreign car initially) I just did because it was a nice car with low mileage that fit my budget. I considered buying a new Ford Focus, Dodge Caliber, and Chrysler PT Cruiser... the Dodge that had just crapped out on me cost me a fortune in repairs over the 8 years I had it (there was always something wrong with it; bought new and needed a new transmission within 3 years- and no I don't drive a lot) The Ford I have now while a relatively new car already has that shotty feeling despite my best efforts to keep it in excellent condition. I feel the need to point out that most Ford SUV's and sedans are now manufactured just outside of Bejing, China. Ford announced plans (I think it was 2 years ago) to move the remainder of it's operations overseas within the next decade and a half.... Even when you're "buying American" you're not... parts, fibers, labor, materials... everything has to come from somewhere and globalization has all but eliminated the possibility of something being entirely domestically made. Most companies today are also owned by a parent company... In the case of auto manufactures there are two parent companies (I can't recall their names of the top of my head) that own nearly every car manufacturer known- Only a few high end manufacturers such as Rolls Royce, Astor-Martin and Bently remain independently owned. Do some websearching, take a class on globalization... You'll be amazed by what you learn!

I would never really get an american car, but if I had to, I would get a:

Favorite American car is 1969 Chevy Camaro, which is heavy, non-aerodynamic and quite slow compared to modern cars. It also has bad gas mileage and a big engine and bad handling.

Favorite Foreign car is Porsche Cayman S, it is light, aerodynamic, and very fast for a 6 cylinder car. It has great gas mileage and good handling.

For my favorite American car I can't really think of any besides '01-'03 Mustang Gt's. In foreign cars, I'd have to go with a WRX Impreza (looks awesome, handles amazingly, and has awd). If your looking for gas mileage, Honda makes the most efficient i-4's. I'd look into the new accord.

My favorite is the Toyota Corolla. It was a good first car. I get about 30 mpg on freeways. I've had one for more than 5 years, now, and haven't had any major service problems.
It's a good price, and doesn't use up that much gas.

There are times I wished I had a roomier car, when I'm driving with friends, for example. But since gas has gone up so much, I'm glad I stayed with the smaller car.

my american car, the saturn aura.
my favorite foreign car, the camry.

with the cars comprabaly equiped, the camry is a hell of alot more expensive than the aura. since the aura is a new model, i don't know how reliable it is, but if it lasts as long as the camry, then it should be better.
