The easiest way is to never let her use a pc without supervision. Don't let her have a pc in her bedroom, disable IM (she's way too young for it anyway), and only let her use a pc in the living room with a parent watching.

If it is occurring on a school computer, you need to alert the school at once.

I just want to congratulate you for being a diligent and caring mom . Do not let that 'first' guy influence you in any way whatsoever . Some folks just lack life experience or good judgment . You, as a parent, are obliged to keep them safe from predators and it is a very serious business .
It's hard to say without knowing her personally what would be best to do . I for one would go in there swinging , shut down the d.. *** computer and hit the ceiling . None of this pussy footing around and hoping it would go away . Keep that computer in a visible place so you can look at it often . It's a dangerous world out there . Tell her so and if she gets ticked off, remember you are a parent and you don't need a popularity contest .

If you are the mother or the father and have this feeling within that your daughter is being "groomed", by an on-line predator, I would call my local police and ask them if the have a detective that specializes in computer fraud, child molesters, on-line predators.

Explain your concerns to the detective and ask him or her if they would please come out to your home and look at the computer that your daugher uses to check all of her communications either on IM, or chat rooms, to see if she is being groomed.

They have to knowledge, tools and if this is the case the ability to trace or obtain a warrant to gain access to the predator if one is found and ofcourse make an arrest.

My professional opinion that this is far better then you trying to search her files. (I feel that you don't have the technical knowledge and may destroy data by accident that could make a case for a warrant to be issued).

Really, you should just ask her about it.

It is not something that you should have to sneak around to find out. Just tell her your concerns and that you would like to know what is going on.

Don't accuse her of anything, just let her know that you are worried. Then discuss what she should do.

She may be determined to meet this person, and there may very well be nothing malicious about the meeting. So forbidding her to meet the person may cause her rebel against you and go anyhow.

Explain to her the dangers of what she is doing and make sure if she does meet this person, that she does it with a friend and in a public place such as a mall.

Hello on-line predators are not something to take lightly, I have been in the networking and computer field for a long time, I'll tell you right now if she is using any hand full of the Instant messaging programs ie; AIM, MSN, ICQ, YIM etc. Most of them DO have a function to record conversations however they are not turned on my factory default. The best thing to do is to go through the options and find the option to turn on conversation recording. Another option is to google a free key logger which will run silently in the background and record any keystrokes your child is making and you can check it remotely or locally on the computer... Hope this helps!!

You are such an idiot. What kind of parent would even let their child possibly get involved in that kind of mess?

The easiest way to deal with your problem is to pull the power cord from the wall. Then you should turn your kid(s) over to the state for being an unfit parent.

People like you make me sick because you are dumb. You have no clue about anything in the world around you, but you think you're right. Self-righteousness is disgusting, and that is the only thing you have.

Please go play in traffic.

You are absolutely doing the right thing. Spy on her all that you can, it shows that you care. Don't worry about what she thinks about it, if she would ever find out, You could possibly save her life!! Some day she will thank you..Install this free keylogger on her computer, and spy on her..You will not have any regrets. Get some evidence, then go to the local authorities..Good Luck>>

it depends on which messenger she is using and also if the "save chat conversations on log out" option is enabled.
If it is enabled then the conversations would be saved as text files in the path specified in the options.

e.g. in Yahoo messenger ..in preferences ..you can go to "archive" and set it to "save all messages"...and view the archive later by clicking "view archive" button. Other messengers offer similar options but the option must be set in order for you to view the files.

The easiest would be, calling up the IM, choose the suspected contact and click the history button.

you can't rly.. unless she's ok'd the option to save a list of her conversations history with certain ppl. which ppl dnt usually do. plus you'd have to know her passwords to get to that point..... and dnt listen to that 1st guy ^^^ sometimes its best to check, i think your being a good parent by doing so.. and im a teenager lol so thats a big compliment :)
