Have you, or would you ever do a good deed for a complete stranger? If you have, when was it, and what did you do to help them? Was it a spur-of-the-moment thing?

Also, did you have to think really hard to find an answer to this question?

Randy. I asked the question because generally someone who does good deeds without the need of personal satisfaction, usually can't actually remember the act. But as so many of the answers prove so far, people do remember their acts of kindness, and so they should too. Life is for giving without seeking reward.

Not sure if this qualifies as a good deed but three weeks ago I was out on a bike ride when I spotted a mobile phone on a wall, obviously left or dropped. So I stopped and flicked though the phone book looking for a friend or relative of owner. I came across a number for the owner's dad, called it and said what had happened and that I would leave it at a near by hotel for them to collect giving my mobile number in case they needed to contact me regarding directions to hotel etc. The owner left me a voice mail on my phone to thank me, said they thought they had lost it and appreciated me ringing their dad and handing it in. I thought that was a nice gesture.

Also, I know this sounds like a cliche, but an old lady asked for help crossing the road, of course I was happy to help. She linked my arm as we crossed, I thought that was sweet and made me feel good about helping her.

I guess when we help olthers out we feel good about it too, so it's almost like helping yourself out...if you know what I mean.

Good question.

The last good deed? has not yet occurred, as I am still alive. As far as what my most recent one was? Well if I go around patting myself on the back for it? Was it a good deed at all? Or possibly to impress or brag ... or some other means of feeding the EGO?
Time to think about an answer? This was instant.. For Me? The best thing about "good deeds" are ones ability to appreciate them anonymously~ Was it a spur of the moment thing? No, It is within my nature and a core part of the who In *Who I Am..
I have a question for you if I may? Have you ever seen a movie called " Pay it forward" ? perhaps you might enjoy it!
Cheers~

As I cannot get out of the house now my good deed was about 3 years ago, the last time I went shopping. A scruffy looking chap had caused a hold up at the check out as he was putting food back, not got enough money to pay, so I asked how much he was short and it was nearly a fiver so I gave it to him. After I did that and he thanked me profusely and had gone, 3 people that were waiting in line told me I was a fool as he was a scrounger and always on the booze. The check out girl then stood up in his defence and said that although he was a little slow, none of the items he was wanting were alcohol all food so who was the fool there? people are too quick to look and judge by appearances. If I could get out today I would still put my hand in my pocket as you never know one day it could be you in the queue.

I don't look upon acts of helpfulness as being "good deeds". I would help anyone out if I could. Being helpful to a stranger is a lot easier than helping someone close to me because a lot of them seem to think they "owe me one" and feel under some sort of obligation to me.

The last time I was helpful to someone ( or at least I hope I was helpful) was yesterday. I helped an old lady carry her shopping bag to the bus station. I think I gained more than she did - she was really lovely and very funny. I was glad I met her.

It was a long time ago. If I am honest, I only remember it because it was spontaneous and I suppose I am glad I did it.

It was nothing much. I came out of the local village shop and there was a woman standing outside with two small children. I noticed her because she looked worried. I walked down the road but something about her worried me so I went back and asked her if she was alright.

She looked embarrassed but told me that her benefit cheque had not arrived and that she was panicking because she had no food in the house. I had a fiver in my pocket and gave it to her. She was embarrassed and said she would give it back as soon as her cheque arrived. I told her not to worry and pay it back when she could.

When I got home, I realised that this fiver was all the money I had and I had two more days to go before pay day.

I survived those two days...and a few weeks later the woman knocked on my door and gave me the fiver back with much gratitude.

No surprises in this story...just me being pleased with myself!

2 days ago. I was at the grocery store and i spent 15 minutes helping a elderly lady finish her shopping. She was stooped and seemed to be having trouble with anything above shoulder height. I didn't really have the time to spare, but i knew the few minutes it took me to help her, saved her about a hour of looking around on her feet. No , i didn't have to think hard. I'm not a do gooder, but i keep my eye's open for ways to help others. It's the right thing to do.
