You can ask your doctor about this new type of procedure, where they have this little pad (similar to the alcohol pads in hospitals) they wipe thats going to be stuck with the pad, and it numbs that area. Youll be fine lol

Well, you must not be to far along because when I was pregnant with my baby they stuck me for this or that the entire 9 months. By the time I did go into labor, needles were no longer a fear of mine...and this is coming from the woman who cried about getting a shot at 18...yes I said 18!!

They can use the cream on adults. I've not had an adult request it or had it used on myself though. But... If it helps, the needle is only used to help insert the IV or epidural line. The needle is then withdrawn and a small catheter (hollow tube) is left in place to deliver your fluids and medications.

Like you, I am also terrified of needles. I can honestly tell you that when I was in labor with my first child it was the furthest thing from my mind. Just keep your chin up and look the other way. It helps to have someone there talking to you while they put in the IV to distract you. Good luck!

by the time you are in labor an IV will be the last thing on your mind. You'll probably beg the guy to put the big one in your spine. I'm afraid of needles too and I thanked him profusely!

Why do you need an IV? Are you expecting complications? Go to a place where an IV is not routine. I had four kids and I never had an IV or any pain medication.

Honestly, you'll probably be in so much pain from the contractions, you probably won't notice the IV going in.
Not to scare you about the pain of contractions, but truth is, for most people they hurt.

I was the same as you with my first... I feared all the "procedures" more than the delivery itself... the IV, the catheter, the epidural, etc... but really, it wasn't that bad. And with all the excitement and contractions I was having I barely noticed what they were doing to me!!!

Since you are pregnant you should be used to all the needles by now!

just hold your husband hand and try to think about the reason you are there
