How is the patriot act good? How can someone support the patriot act? Does supporting the patriot act make you less patriotic? The patriot act does take away certain rights, this is a fact. So how can someone support the patriot act and then support the war in Iraq by saying we are fighting for our rights? It saddens me to know that poeple would rather be less free and THINK they are safer from terrorists. Do you think that america will be able to stop every terrorist? Does the government have a list of every terrorist group in the world that hates america? What happens after we get every Al Queda terrorist? Will there be no more need for the patriot act?

-FISA roving wiretaps to include sensible privacy safeguards
-“Sneak and Peek” criminal warrants
-FISA orders for private records
-“National Security Letters” Power to Obtain Records Without Court Review
-Reform of Authority to Monitor Communications Without Probable Cause
-“Domestic Terrorism” Definition to Ensure Against Overbroad Application
-Greater Public Reporting on FISA Surveillance

The Patriot Act is the most unpatriotic piece of legislation that this country has produced since the internment of US citizens of Japanese decent during WW2. Its essentially a tool for the government to control its citizenry even more. It flies in the face of everything that our founding fathers stood for. On the terrorist front it has accomplished nothing. We are no safer. The government says that we are but they won't tell us why that it is true because its classified and it needs to be kept from us in order to protect us. Sounds a lot like destroying the village in order to save it. The shameful day that CONgress passed that awful law will be remembered as the day that our land was subverted from within.

Progressivism is the problem.
It is the action of trying to fix what isn’t broke and in the process totally breaking it.
I sure felt freer before all of the do good liberals stepped in and decided to save me from myself when all they really had to do to save America was to stop corrupting it and ruining it in the first place. Had they only committed suicide instead then we'd all still be free.
What they have done is unforgivable.
They have waged racial McCarthyism on the average Joe and declared every poor white man a racist until proven otherwise, stepped all over our freedoms, stepped all over our freedom of religion and gave us a new religion in it's place that demands total obedience. What we have here is the snobby elitist enlightened rich liberals actually forcing their religion/belief system on us and making us an offer we can't refuse. They are persecuting the poor.
Furthermore not only are they forcing their beliefs on us and not letting us have the option of refusing it. They are also taking away everything from us at the same time.
We can't even have a country with borders or they say we are Nazis just because we want borders and the secure feeling that comes with knowing that we are still a free and sovereign nation. And for that we are Nazis? I thought we had the constitutional right to feel safe and secure in our own country.
You know who the Nazis are?
Rich, Little white ******* liberals.THAT"S WHO!

Its funny too when Clinton tried to pass the same thing they wouldn't let him do it.
The Patriot Act is a scary thing and people justify being okay with it by saying the terrorists the terrorists we have to be safe. I dont understand why they dont think the government will abuse the powers they have been given. These are the same people who want little government control in their lives but just accept anything thrown there way in the guise of keeping them same from terrorists.

It's another way to get people to say "Zieg Heil". And another way to intrude on the privacy of the American people. It has nothing to do with stopping terrorism. It has everything to do with squashing dissent. Prior to 9/11, the government had plenty of information that America was going to be attacked. They didn't do anything about it. After 9/11, the American people themselves have all become suspect. A country that lives in fear will die in fear.

I second the motion
It is a facist move, Hitler used fear to gain power as well.
I dont remember what it stands for but PATRIOT is an acrynom for a sentence that basicly means we're taking away your rights in the name of security.

There's no need for it now. Every terrorist plot foiled in the U.S. since 9/11 has been stopped by American citizens paying attention to their surroundings. We don't need the government listening to our phone calls and looking over our shoulder, we're a strong people perfectly capable of looking after ourselves.

You are over budget on questions. I bet you never read the Patriot Act. It does not take away any rights of American citizens. I suggest you read it. Secondly, read the Y! Answers rules. You are supposed to ask one question at a time.
