around the Depression and World War II to now, but it has to be historically significant and at least 250 pages. I was going to read the Grapes of Wrath but I'm kind of bored and have to be able to read it fast. ( I only have about a week left).

Somebody already mentioned it but the Jungle by Upton Sinclair, hands down one of the most influential books ever.

I will second both The Things They Carried and Catch-22 as great reads.

The Jungle is alright but is slightly ahead of your time frame.
