I would imagine that unless it was an extreme circumstance the kid could have held it until the end of class. I would say the reaction of the student would be the most important issue. Was he mortified or smirking?

It depends on the circumstances. How long was it between the point at which he asked to use the bathroom and the point he peed? How many times did he ask? Did he tell the teacher it was an emergency? Did he ask during an important test or just during the lecture? Did he do it out of spite or was he actually unable to hold it? Does he have a history of asking to leave for the bathroom during that class every day? What is his track record regarding his general attitude at school - is he a trouble maker?
If it was completely innocent then its definitely NOT a suspendable offense. Holding it for a long time can cause urinary and erectile problems. And the inability to hold it could be a serious medical problem. The whole ordeal is disgusting on the school's behalf. It is neglect and abuse to refuse a person in your care the right to use a toilet. I would call you're local news station to do an expose' on the school, and if you're friend feels deeply wronged, he could try to sue for mental anguish and loss of attendance/education.
But if this guy has been disiplined for legitimate reasons several times throughout his schooling and did it just to see what he could get away with, then the school might be right to suspend him. After all its the end of the school year, kids are getting antsy and rebellious in anticipation of the summer quickly approaching. Plus he is nearly an adult and should be able to hold it, unless, as mentioned above, he has a medical condition. Or he could have removed himself from the classroom to use the bathroom, followed by a trip to the superintendent's office to complain about the teacher.
There are just to many questions to answer this finitely. Whats the whole story?

I do not agree taht the student should have been suspended, but I am not there in the class to see the actual incedent. There are other factors that you are not telling us.
If I were the student, I would have just left the class and went to the bathroom. He probably would have been sent to the Pricipals office to explain his actions. There may have been a suspention for leaving class, but he wouldn't have had to suffer the embarrassment of going in his pants infront of the class.

strangly the same thing happened in my high school to a girl in the 11th grade...he should have just got up and went to the bathroom instead of going in his pants. what is the worst that could have happened to him? get detention? suspended? all he would need to do is explain to the principle and his parents that the teacher refused to let him use the restroom and they likely would have sided with him...but when you are in the 11th grade you are close enough to adulthood to know that peeing in your pants in not acceptable.

Wow that is pretty harsh. Unless your friend is a trouble-maker to begin with I am surprised they suspended him. Although I must say I am surprised that your friend...um...urinated in his pants in class at his age. I would have held it until the next class rather than face that kind of ridicule (unless he has some kind of physical disibility that makes it difficult to hold it). Or I would have just left and went to the bathroom and faced the consequences.

Well, how much did she poop? If it's a lot, then she needs to go to the bathroom right away and clickly and hopefully she has a sweater to cover her waist with OR, if it's just a little, then I would wait till class is over. Good luck :) P.S. Comfort her.

Why wouldn't the teacher let him leave the room? Had he been messing about a lot, so the teacher didn't believe him?
I think there's more to this than meets the eye.

I agree with the others, he would have gotten in less trouble if he had just gotten up and gone on to the restroom. Did he not think of this?

I think he should go to the principle and if that doesn't work sue the teacher for hindering his education by kicking him out when it was the teachers fault.
