My brother and I watched a scary movie on cable, back around the mid to late 1980's that took place on an oil rig.
A creature that was a lizard was on there - man-sized, possibly starting as a smaller lizard or lizard earlier in the film.
I've checked the movie sites, and it's not 2001's Ghost Rig, or any of the other search results. Again, I'm guessing the year was 1965 - 1985, based on the color and quality.
I would LOVE to know!!!

Proteus (1995) is too new.
I think it was just ordinary workers on the oil rig.

Was it "Leviathan"? released 1989. Had Peter Weller, from Robocop fame.

Wait, I think I found it for you. Was it called The Intruder Within? It was a TV movie that came out in 1981.
Summary: Drillers on an oil rig near Antarctica discover that they accidentaly brought up several prehistoric eggs. One egg hatches and becomes an unstoppable creature. Chad Everett and Jennifer Warren risk there lives to stop it.

I think it might be a movie called "Proteus."
Here's a plot summary: Group of heroin smugglers finds shelter on abandoned oil rig after their ship had exploded. Soon they find that the oil rig was just cover for biological experiment.
