I'm just guessing, but the world (earth) will probably end some day. The event will more than likely surround a supernatural phenomena that happens in space that would cause a "Black Hole" to come our way. No use preparing for it, as nothing will survive. About the only time we will have, is when we watch smaller animal and items being sucked off Terra firma.
Personally, I wouldn't worry, those that know say we are not there yet and won't be for several lifetimes.

Survival is important and people have been preparing for the world to end for a long time. Will it end tomorrow? Likely not, but if it does I am more prepared than the other guy. Prepare before the disaster, not after it.

If we don't blow ourselves up due to over proliferation of nuclear weapons it will be because of Environmental degradation. And, it will be more of a gradual end, not a cataclysmic end like the apocolypse or something so dramatic as that. We can't live without a planet. Sorry but that's the truth. If We don't have food, clean water and ecosystems that support clean water and food, we don't live. Think of Easter Island and how those people died off and disappeared. It's the same issue but on a larger scale.

The world won't just 'end'.
We might nuke human civilization into oblivion, but the world will just keep right on spinning along through space.
Someday the earth will probably continue to get closer and closer to the sun until it hits - or the sun will go supernova and wipe out the earth (or at least everything on it in a burst of radiation).
Other catastrophes might happen in the meantime - giant asteroid, widespread disease, etc.
Like monty python said - 'whenever life gets you down - just remember that your standing on a planet thats revolving...'

July 17th, 2050 - it won't really end unless that gigantic comet really hits us and knocks us off orbit into the sun - but that'll be the date that the last human being left dies and leaves what's left of earth to the cockroaches.
Live a good life - that'll work whether you end or the world ends.

The Joel Rosenburg book series is an interesting fictional depiction of what the end times will be like.
As to your premise. The Bible says that no man knows the answer. So, I'll wager to bet that no man does.

The world will end as humans know it when we trash the environment to the point of human extinction.
Weather it be nuclear war, global starvation, etc...
But more than likely, civilization as we know it will fall before that happens.
