To answer the second question first, yes we do notice grungy houses. A dirty floor or messy kitchen is no big deal, but when you walk into a house and immediately get hit in the face with the smell of cat or dog pee it really puts a damper on your day. The biggest problems we face is people that can't throw anything away. It makes it really difficult to work in someones house if you can only walk a tiny trail from room to room between all the crap sitting around. But enough complaining on my part, lets get to the fun question.
The best story I have (well I should say worst story because I had to witness it) was a really hot sunny day here in Kansas City. I had carried my 28ft. ladder into the backyard of a house I was disconnecting and put it up on the pole. The neighbor behind them had put up an 8ft. privacy fence, which in this part of town is not uncommon, so I didn't think anything of it. As I climbed the ladder up the pole I noticed that they also had a really nice pool, and by this time I was dripping sweat and was thinking how nice it would be to take a dip. Once I got to the top and belted off, I did my disconnect and then hung out up there for a minute enjoying the breeze. As I was about to come down I heard a voice that sounded somewhat like my grandmother say "boy you look pretty hot up there, maybe you would like to come down and take a quick dip in our pool". As I looked down on their side of the fence I saw a woman who had to be in her eighties laying totally nude on a deck chair, and then noticed in the pool was a couple who also had to be in their eighties also with not a stitch of clothing on and for lack of a better word they were going at it. All I can say is I politefully declined, came down the pole, grabbed my ladder, and RAN FOR MY LIFE. Luckily no mental scars have come from my brush with the naked elderly.

This is a story that my husband loves to tell ..... he works for the phone company. One day he went to a home, with his partner to fix a phone cable. They rang the bell and knocked on the front door, no response. They both went into the backyard of the home, made plenty of noise in case the homeowner was in the yard. The back of the home had a sliding glass door facing the backyard. The curtains were open and the sun was shining through. On the floor inside, lying in the sun was a young lady, totally nude. Being the men that they are, they could not help themselves to get a good look! They continued talking loudly to make their presence known. She either did not hear them or did not care, but she did move a bit so they did know that she was alive. They did the work they were there to do and then left. When they left, they did noticed that she had moved even more and they could see the other side of her. True story!!

I don't look too hard at the surroundings in a "workplace. Strangest thing I have had happen was while trying to clear a collgged drain for a toilet. Snake cable went through the line easily but it was still clogged. After 3 times, I looked carefully at the snake cable and saw hair. Took the line apart inside the wall and found a dead squirrel that had fallen down the vent pipe, got wedged at the toilet discharge fitting and died. The snake was going through the body but not dragging it out.
