I don't mean to discourage because i think it's wonderful that you want your first words to your daughter to be special and memorable, but just as a heads up if this is your first baby........ If your body's endorphines(natural pain relievers your body produces on it's own) work as good as mine do with no other medication, it's entirely possible that you might not remember either. I know it pisses me off to no end that I can't remember the first time I held my youngest son. To be honest, I don't really remember him at all until like five hours after I had him. I hate not being able to draw on those memories, but I think it was my body's way of coping since I had no epidural or pain medication at all........ My advice, get the epidural! I'm proud of myself for enduring it all but I'd rather have those few priceless hours of memory. Then, if you can actually say anything that was planned, I still like the first response on your column of answers (sorry don't remember whose answer it was and don't want to risk all I just typed to hit back to see)... That was a really good one cute AND funny.... Good luck

I completely understand. I had a big speech ready with a poem about how i felt and it was going to be perfact. But when i saw my son all i could think to say was " wow, oh wow, oh my goodness! wow." It continued like that for about 30 minutes. By the time i could speak intelligantly again he was asleep. So i read him the poem at 3 in the morning when every one else had left or gone to sleep. It was still perfact.

you cannot plan that moment, your first words will be wow, hi, or hello there, or thank goodness it's over, or, i love you, or so there you are, but you cannot plan that moment and should not even try, it's not a play or a movie, it's real life, no script needed, and your daughter does not want to hear something rehearsed

When you look at that lil girl, you may not be able to speak. You may just cry like I did. Don't worry about what to say, or how to say it. It wont matter once she is in your arms. It will be perfect no matter what you do. Cuz that mommy-daughter bond will be there.
Just smile:)

WOW! Thats a great question but I agree, the moment has to fit the event. No one can tell you what to say, it has to come from a place that expresses your joy.

Hello, my dear mommy. I want to get a paper route as soon as I can walk so I can start saving for college. Don't worry about me doing any drugs or any other stupid thing. I was born to please you. Repeat after mommy until you have this down.

you cant plan ahead what you will say because the moment you see her for the fist time will be so wonderful you couldnt remember a script. you will know exactly what to say when the time comes, just let it come form your heart
