As some may have heard, Yolanda King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King has died today. She was an avid supporter in gay rights and did so much for the gay community as well as the black community. There were rumors that she herself was a lesbian, but either way, she is no longer here, and she, at least in my eyes, was a great woman, as were her parents.

Thoughts?

She did "have a job". She has her own company of which she is CEO, she was actively involved with Equality California, was a 2006 speaker for the Out & Equal 2006 Summitt, took a very critical stance against her sister Bernice marching FOR gay rights, including civil marriage. And as for milking the King legacy, she can't help who her parents are and it was up to her and her siblings to keep the legacy alive. It's real easy to look from the outside and criticize when you only know what the media tells you. Oh and as far as her not being in the news, maybe she was in it for the cause, not to have her face plastered everywhere. The media chooses to report what they want.

Frankly, I'm disgusted with the shallowness of American citizens and media that they could hold up Jerry Falwell, who died yesterday, as some sort of icon for 'morality' when in fact all this anti-homosexual nonesense is just that - nonesense. God is not discriminatory. What does it matter which orifice anything goes into? - it's all the same human feeling. My disgust was only compounded today with the death of Yolanda King, who received little or no mention in the media. And what a life journey she had, continuing, to the best of her ability, her father's great work, a man sent by God to do the great task of uniting American citizens in equality - a true spiritual endeavour. As well as this, Yolanda undoubtedly gave strength and guidance to her younger siblings and to all who knew her. We all have our failings - this is the human touch we all have, and we all try to do good things. I just don't know what great contribution Jerry Falwell made, except do the opposite of what Jesus himself might have done. Some tears rolled down my cheeks today for the loss of Yolanda from our world, but I know she's happy today to be with God and with her biological father and mother. The tears were also for America that once again, truly good people are not recognised. A television program plays in the background while I write - Anna Nicole's story. Surely something is wrong when people become fascinated with the death of a not very good looking, large-breasted woman whose only claim to fame was her attempt to rip off an old man for his fortune? After my tears, I consoled myself - when the time is right or needed, God will send another Martin Luther King, another Yolanda. May she rest in peace.

First I am a Caucasian male. 1)He showed true courage, 2)Showed change could be accomplished through non violence. 3) Showed the world who the true aggressors were. 4)When America saw normal everyday Americans who only wanted their basic civil rights being hit with police batons, fire hoses and having police dogs attack them for just walking down the street, it opened every ones eyes to what was really happening in the South. 5)Showed that a "Too confident sense of justice always leads to injustice." Jet" magazine printed the entire "I had a Dream" speech, it should be required reading for ALL Americans.(I'm sure one could google it and find it) The Lorraine Hotel where he was murdered in Memphis, Tn. is now a civil rights museum, and if you visit there, it is a very solemn place, a feeling of awe comes over you that is hard to explain.

She was an Activist in her own right with achievements that were uniquely her own. IMO she may have had good role models, in her parents, but many have good role models and fall short of living such an exemplary life as she did. It is a shame she died so young.

Didn't know too much about her but she seemed a good, kind hearted individual who helped many people in many areas. How sad to die so young. The good die young they say. It's strange that the people who are contributing so much good die young and the creeps and wastes of skin linger on and on.

Sounds like a great person, although I don't choose to take the route she stood up for. Honestly, I didn't really know much about her... I also didn't know she had passed away. I'm sorry.

It's unfortunate that I knew so little about her until her death. I read an article that didn't really get into specifics, but it seems as if she followed in her father's footsteps.
I had no clue about the gay rights stuff until I saw your question, so thanks for the education.

It is shame her death is overshadowed by that of Jerry Falwell who preached hate.
