He set the standard of what a true American should be. Did you know that when the revolutionary war ended , congress voted to give him the same power as a king in another country would have, and he turned it down, he said no. This is a democracy. Can you imagine king george, I mean George Bush saying that, he's been trying to turn the presidency into a monarchy for 7 years.

Look up George Washington in Wikipedia to get started.. Washington was one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. If you are going to live here, I recommend you read more history.

He was the general during the American revolution that defeated the Brittish occupation. He was also the first president of the USA. I think those 2 reasons alone are enough to make him important.
