You know, when your eating icecream or an Icee too fast and your head feels like it's going to split open. Why, scientificaly does this happen?

The coldness of the food stimulates the upper pallate of your mouth and the back of your throat which contain tons and tons of sensory receptors. The simultaneous firing of these neurons on a hot day cause the blood vessels in your head to dialate, causing a momentary headache

"brain freeze" occurs when a very cold substance touches the roof of your mouth. The roof of your mouth is also part of the bottom of your skull where the brain rests.

The cold travels through the roof of your mouth hits the brain which reacts to the very cold temp. hence "brain freeze"
