Please don't take this to be insulting or demeaning, I'm genuinely curious.

Do any of you believe that witches, ghosts, spirits, goblins and supernatural beings in general exist? I truly am curious. I saw some questions about Vampirism and it got me thinking about this question. And if they do exist, are they as they are portrayed in books and movies or are they different?

That's kind of dissapointing. I was half hoping someone would tell me that leprachauns exist and how to get their pot of gold. lol.

Sorry Terry, I guess I just assumed Vampirism was a sub-sub-culture of the gothic sub-culture.

Well, in the sense that witches practice witchcraft, which doesn't necessarily mean magic, yes, I believe in witches. But then, I practice witchcraft....

As for most of the creatures that we consider to be mythical: I think that all myths and legends have some foundation in truth, somewhere in the deep recesses of time. But those origins are so skewed now that we can no longer see the truth. How I think we got the legends for most of our mythical beings, I think there was a knight (or soldier, whatever you want to call him) that wanted to impress either a king (or his daughter) or the villagers and killed an animal (like a deer or eagle or something like that) took part of its body as a trophy and created a fantastic tale of heroism and bravery. And from that point on, that was the standard that these "heros" were held to. The tales got more and more fantastic as they changed hands (have you ever heard of the basilisk?). Until we got the legends and mythical beasts that we're aware of.

I'm curious as to how Gothic got into this, as it is a style of dressing, a kind of literature, and a kind of architecture.

If you perceive vampirism as ingesting blood, all humankind has been doing so for as long as they have partaken of meat. Of course there are Vegans...but they are a minority. The ones that rather adroitly take blood from living cows and some humans are small bats in the Americas.

Witches are alive and ghosts are dead......not quite the same amount of believability.

On the rest, look back at the first time you saw a giraffe. Would someone believe there was such a thing if you could not parade it in front of their eyes?

Witches, ghosts and spirits exist. I have contact with them on a day-to-day basis.

As for others, whether werewolves, yeti, loch ness monster, fey, vampires etc: I entertain the possibility that these things exist. If they do their nature makes them so good at concealment that we will never know their true nature.

And no, if societies such as vampires exist (for example) I don't think they're anything like what's portaryed in movies and books. The complexities of their society probably couldn't easily be understood.

I certainly do, or if nothing else, they once did exist. I say, we don't understand how most of the events on our planet occur, we still haven't discovered all the living creatures or fossils on and in it, and we care more about space. Who knows what could be happening right under our noses that scientists miss?
